Does anyone know if the records for the Belfast Union Workhouse exhist and if they are at the Records Office for 1929, Can they be viewed. Thanks

Hi Steve, phoned Proni, you have to get special permission to view the records because it is within 100 yrs and you have to do it in person. Contacted someone from family ulster as they were the cheapest I could find who would do it for me as I am in England. Its a lot cheaper than going over myself lol. Anyway the person thats doing it for me has applied for permission and is hoping for a response within the next week or so. Then hopefully I will get the answers I have been searching for, for the last year. Hopefully this wil lead to me finding my father in laws birth mother and find out what happened to her after his birth. Thats assuming of course that she originally came from Ireland if not it turns into a world wide search and I am not looking forward to that. Helen x

i think i hve already told you this on the GenesReunited site,
but just for interest to anyone else
my mom was born in belfast workhouse back in 1905 and in 2003 i wrote to
RECORDS ADMINISTRATION AND BUSINESS
SUPPORT BRANCH, ROOM A3.7
CASTLE BUILDING, STORMONT
BELFAST BT4 3SL
telling them that i could send them my moms death certificate and my birth one to prove who i was  and asked them for the info they had.
the letter they sent back gave me
the ref no
date of admission        ( day my mom was born)
her name
address, sex, age, religion, status(single),condition(pregnant) and the date she left( after the 10 day confindment)and her occupation
info on the baby
same as the mothers here on the date bit it say infant of (whoever) born in hospital,
hope this helps anyone who needs it

I just found out that my grandfathers sister was born in the belfast work house on the 28/09/1904  baptised 04/10/1904 it dosent give the childs name just the sex F and mothers name margaret Mulholland, fathers name John Doyle labourer. can any one give me any pointers as how to find out this childs name please.

have you tried belfast reg off, give them the date and names and see if they can find a record, they will do a search 5 yrs either side of your date for a fee.
