My great aunt Maude Stuart emigrated from Ireland to NZ in 1898 and married Arthur Hill, or Holmes, in 1902. She died in NZ in 1909. I have all the relevant certificates for Maude. In a newspaper article after her death, mention is made of Eleanor Beaumont who was apparently a first cousin of my great aunt. I can find an entry for the marriage of Arthur Edwin Beaumont and Eleanor Ernestine Stewart in 1897 on the NZ BMD website and various entries on the electoral roll in the Lyttleton and Otago areas, but no further information. Does anyone have any info about Eleanor - sometimes spelled Ellinor? If I could trace more about her parents this might lead me to a connection with another branch of the Stuart/Stewart family. Many thanks.

"... In a newspaper article after her death, mention is made of Eleanor Beaumont who was apparently a first cousin of my great aunt. "
How do you identify Eleanor to be a cousin to your great aunt?
Is this the article you are seeing -

This looks like your BEAUMONT and HILL families.

Is this a brother of "your" Nellie Beaumont?
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSMZ-N98P-V?i=251&cc=1865481
If so, his death:
1945/27242 Stewart George Hain 68Y
And possibly his birth?
1879/9452 Stewart George Ann George
And maybe that of Nellie?
1876/12546 Stewart Ellen Ann George
[There are other possible children born to this couple]

These newspaper reports may be 'more of the same'...
The first one does mention that:
"The evidence showed that Mrs. Beaumont & Mrs. Holmes were cousins"……….

Again, mention of George Stewart:

Further to my reply #7.....
Not so sure about those births ???
Could this be the death of Nellie's mother?

Many thanks to everyone for all this information! Thought I had found all the newspaper articles on the NZ Papers Past site but the BMD announcements are just want I wanted. The George mentioned in the reports of 'Beaumont Bashed' is Maude's brother but the name is common in the family and is also that of my Irish/Scottish gggrandfather so that would tie in. Many members of the family in Ireland were in the Royal Irish Constabulary so that fits too. Another brick wall scaled!
Thanks again to Rootschatters.
