John Milson born 1809 in East Halton appears on the 1871 Census as a Bootmaker in Fleetgate Barton upon Humber. Is it possible to find the house/shop number.
He was buried at Killingholme in 1875.

Having looked at the original copy on FMPast. It simply says Fleetgate and no number is given, Suggest you try to find a Trade directory for that time to see if it is listed in it
-
Thanks, I have the original but as I live in Wales I have no access to Trades Directories for that area.

Some UK directories can be found here

Thankyou, I didn`t know about this website. I will take a look.

I will have a look in the local library, when I am next in to see if I can find a reference

I doubt there was any numbering at that time.
Probably no door to door deliveries, so no need for numbers.
My ancestor was a "Letter Carrier" who lived in uphill Lincoln. His round (start 6.30am) took him to Bracebridge, North and South Hykeham, Aubourn, Haddington and Thorpe-on-the-Hill, returning home again by 6.30pm. He obviously didn't post through every door.

All on FreeREG.
Just as a footnote John Milsons 2nd Wife was Lydia Tong nee Pennington.
Jobs GRO Birth Index;
MILLSON, JOB SAMUEL, Mothers mn PENNINGTON*
GRO Reference: 1867 M Quarter in SHEFFIELD Volume 09C Page 328
I did also check the Tong childrens Birth Regs same Mothers mn.
A Tree has Job Samuel Millson on it with his Mothers name as Lydia Johnson because of the 1871 Census where a Elizabeth Johnson is Lydias Mother.
Lydia P's Baptism is on FreeREG 1828 to WILLIAM/ELIZABETH
William P died 1850 age 53 and Wife Elizabeth must have remarried (likely to Edward JOHNNSON 1851 on FreeBMD)
1861 they are in Yorkshire and she is born c 1805 Killingholme

Thanks for all your replies.
Itterbysearch - that would be great, thanks.
Geoff - your ancestor certainly covered some ground delivering the post ! And what are hard work, all done on foot in all weathers.
Trish thanks for all that, but I have it all.
I am just hoping to pin down which property in Fleetgate was where John Millson had his shop.
I didn`t realise that when I drove along there every fortnight whilst working that I was passing the home of one of my ancestors !!

Had a look at Whites Directory for 1871 today, unfortunately it also simply says Fleetgate, Barton, without giving a number. It does not takes us any further. A further directory for 1868 does not show him at all.
-
Thanks very much for your time, that`s so frustrating ! ( for both of us ! )

It`s amazing what comes into your head at 3 in the morning !
I went back to the 1871 census to look at other families in Fleetgate. Going to previous pages it shows The White Swan pub, next pages show a Thompson family with a butcher`s shop ; latterly there has been Thompsons furniture shop on the same side of the road., maybe the same family as the butchers. Counting the families up from the pub, I got to seven for the Milsons, so I looked on Showmystreet and I think the shop is the one on the corner of Fleetgate and Newport.
That`s if the enumerator was consistent if recording the houses consecutively.
Thanks for all those who`ve helped.
