Title: Mother's maiden name lookup request - Elsbury (1836-1844)
Post by: SamuelF992 on Saturday 31 March 18 17:48 BST (UK)
Hi all

Would anyone be able to search for a birth record complete with mmn for either George (1836), James (1838), Thomas (1841) or Isaac (around 1844) Elsbury born around the Stapleton/St George's area of Bristol? Their parents are George Elsbury and Joannah (?). Joannah died in 1848, and I've never been able to find a marriage record for her and George. I've seen the Elsbury surname spelt Alesbury, Alsbury, Aylesbury, Ellsberry, Halsbury and quite a few more variations. Long shot but would finally break this brick wall!

Many thanks

Samuel

There was also a daughter Elizabeth with the “Alsbury” group in the Clifton workhouse in 1851, supposedly aged 4, but...

Elizabeth Aylesbury mmn Bailey, Sep qtr 1844 Clifton.

Interesting! I've found a marriage for an Edward Bailey and Elizabeth Wilkins in 1786 in Bristol and Edward Bailey and Elizabeth Harvey in 1789 in Stapleton. Edward and Elizabeth have quite a few children in Stapleton until 1797, at which point it dries up. However Johanna did marry in Stapleton. Possibly they moved away from the area and continued having children?
