Title: Thomas Lewis
Post by: ddraigcelt on Wednesday 15 August 18 16:18 BST (UK)
Hi Guys,
I'm trying to find the death date of my Great Grandfather, Thomas Lewis born 24 October1877 in Pwllgwaun, Pontypridd (I have his birth cert.). His parents were
Henry Lewis and Jane Snow and he married my Great Grandmother, Mary Hannah Davies/David on the 20Th November 1900 in Pontypridd (I have Marriage Cert.). I originally thought his death date was 1936 but when I sent for his death certificate The GRO said they couldn't find it. I am assuming now that 1936 is wrong, can anybody help.
                                                        Many Regards, David

Have you got a death for his wife or either of them in the 1939 register?

It would help to know if she was a widow or outlived him.

Which 1936 death did you send for that couldn't be found?

There are 6 in Pontypridd but none the right age  :-\ - was he living somewhere else?

Hi there Milliepede, thanks for your swift reply. His wife died in 1974. On the 1939 register only his wife and her daughter (my grandmother) is on there. With regards to the 1936 death certificate the GRO searched with all the details I provided ( parents names, place of birth and birth dates) between 1935 and 1937 with no luck.

Does the 1939 register confirm that his wife was widowed.  Where was she living

Hi again,
Ah right, the 1939 register has her marital status as married, so cant be 1936 then, I assume he's still alive maybe in work. Just looked now, the 1939 registers were dated October 1939 but I have just found my grandmothers marriage certificate dated 7 September 1939 and it has Thomas as deceased.

Possible marriage for that one in 1898

Not as far as I'm aware, my gran and dad have both passed away, they had never mentioned a Catherine, maybe I could get the GRO to search 1937 -1939.

Have you tried local papers for an obituary.  It is always possible he did not die in Pontypridd reg district in which case his death would be registered elsewhere

ADDED  Is your gt grandmother not buried with him
