Title: Help with profession on 1841 Census pls
Post by: benn34 on Tuesday 21 August 18 21:38 BST (UK)
Hey guys,

I wonder if someone is able to help me decipher what exactly the trade/occupation for William Lamb is on this 1841 census please. Very confused by what is written if it makes sense to anyone.

Thanks

Ann

It looks like. M.S. which stands for male servant.

It's 'Do'  (ditto) of the occupation above. I think that is M.S. - Man/Male Servant

MS means Male Servant not Man Servant. which is the official abbreviation used in the census

ML is not an official 1841 census abbreviation. MS is the one the enumerator is instructed to use for Male Servant.
