Looking to make contact with JOHNSTON family of Tasmania.
My Johnston line is from Balmerino , Fife Scotland and have a good worn path thru Victoria.
However my Grandmother Annie Herweg [nee McClure whose mother was Margaret Johnston] said that we had relatives in Tassie.

Hi,
I am not a family member, but just posting one of the notices from the newspapers as it gives details that should help descendants to identify Elizabeth, wife of Robert, and thus be able to go back further and check if they have Tasmanian heritage to share and compare with Jack.

My Grandmother's maiden name was Johnston born in Burnley, Victoria. Her father, my Great Grandfather John Alexander Johnston was born in Campbelltown, Tasmania. The earliest Johnston I have is John Johnston (born C1810 in Scotland) and Jane Johnston who were passengers aboard the barque Lochiel. They arrived at the Port of Hobart 18 September 1833. The Lochiel left Leith in Scotland 13 April 1833. John Johnston's occupation was that of a carpenter.

Hello Red,
Any idea where your Johnston's came from in Scotland?
Sounds like their is a story behind the trip to Tassie and then the move to Victoria for the birth in Burnley?
Cheers

Don't have much, except from Maree Stewart who found a Jane Henderson born 09/12/1810 in Liberton Midlothian Scotland. (Leith is in Midlothian) married John Johnston 29/03/1833 in Liberton about 2 weeks before the Lochiel sailed. Her mother was Jean/Jane Wallace father John Henderson. Children: James, John, Alexander, William, Andrew, Elisabeth, Isabella, Jane and Robert .
There is a John Johnston born 20/08/1806 Liberton Midlothian to John Johnston and Susan Chalmers.
There was also a John Johnston born to John Johnston and Catherine Campbell in Newhaven North Leith Midlothian on 13/06/1808.
And thant's the extent of my Johnston information.

Thanks Red,
on the information that we have so far it would appear that we do not have a connection. We will both keep looking. What wa the story behind the Burnley birth?
Cheers
