I have by chance come across records for Epiphanias Spencer no 3. b1773. York. Convicted of handling forged notes convicted at Chester. 1818. 19th April sent to the Hulk Justitia Woolwich Transported to N S W Australia on the ship Glory .
I a wondering with such an unusual name if Epiphanius no 3 is a relative of the two previous Epiphanius ‘s. I have listed under Notts. but they all had connections with Yorkshire. I have tried to find a birth for Epiphanius. without success. Has any one any ideas ? Any help greatly appreciated

He gained his certificate of freedom in Australia in 1832 and there are a couple of possible marriages in NSW

I'm also getting hits for Australian records on Ancestry, but no subs to access them. Maybe worth trying on the Australia board here?

Thanks for your reply. I have all Australian records. I am trying to find any connection to Epiphanias 1and 2 I have been trying to work backwards to see if he was perhaps the son of one of the brothers but no luck so far. Thank you

Did his name mean Epiphany? Was he Non-conformist or perhaps Quaker? Perhaps from a denomination which didn't do infant baptisms?
-
Hi. I know nothing about Epiphanias 3. I wondered if he was connected to my Epiphanias’s 1& 2 with having the same unusual Christian name. It may be a shot in the dark. , there may be no connection. Epiphanias 1 &2. Were both baptised. so. they were not quakers .Thank you for your reply. , much appreciated. Tineke

Hello... :)
I haven't got to grips with understanding the different Epiphanias Spencer's '
My query is re Epiphanius Spencer. no 2 b1744. Everton Nottinghamshire d 1836 Yorkshire
.
As you say the above Epiphanius was baptised at Everton Holy Trinity - 28th Oct 1744
But there is a burial at Everton Holy Trinity for an Epiphanius SPENCER - 23rd April 1816, aged 72 yrs ( born abt 1744) ..... surely this burial is your Epiphanius ?
Here are a few pieces of info which may help in sorting them out? :-\
Marriage = CLAYWORTH St Peter
26th Feb 1767 - Epiphanias SPENCER & Hannah KITCHEN
Baptism - 12th January 1769 BAWTRY St Nicholas (S Yorks)
Epiphanus - Son of William SPENCER
As well as Epiphanus it is possible that William Spencer had seven more children baptised at Bawtry between 1764 & 1777 there is no mothers name given and I can't see a suitable marriage at Bawtry.

I numbered them 1 2 &3:to try and avoid confusion. Epiphanias. Spencer 1 is the 6 th great grandfather b1710 Laughton en le Morthen Yorkshire d 1757 Everton Notts. Epiphanias. 2 is the son & 5 th great grandfather. b Everton 1744. d Laughten en le Morthen 1836. Epiphanias 3 is the unknown one. just trying to find if he was related. He was born 1773 Yorkshire.
Epiphanias 2 b 1744. did marry, Hannah. Kitchen .
I had not come across the William. Spencer from Bawtry. I will take a look
Many thanks

Epiphanias 3 is the unknown one. just trying to find if he was related. He was born 1773 Yorkshire.
Do you have a baptism for him? If not, where did you find/calculate year and place of birth?
-
I cannot find a baptism that is why I am seeking help .The details I have are from court records where he is charged with handling forged notes. Records give birth as. 1773 York or Yorkshire. . He was transported to N S W Australia. for 14 years.
-
I wonder if Epiphanius number 3 might have been the same man as the one baptised 1769. Age in his court records may have been estimated.

Hi, I don't know if this helps but there is a marriage record for a Epiphanius Spencer at St Peter and St Paul Sheffield West Yorkshire, on June 26th 1791. Epiphanius was a batchelor of the parish and married after banns to Sarah Hirst a spinster of the parish. Witnesses to the marriage were Sarah Winter and Mark Mullnis (I think that is what is says but I can't be sure of it definitely being Mullnis). The record does not name the parents of Epiphanius or Sarah.
