Thank you and Seasons Greetings

Probably best to give us a bit of a clue as to where/if you are stuck somewhere with your research so we can help.
Presume you have looked at Family Search, Proni, https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/, for Griffiths Valuation and at the various Censuses http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
Then there are often genealogical sites associated with various regions.
Essential for searching in Ireland is a knowledge of the religion and the if possible the Townland where they lived.
A Google search either for records or on a name can sometimes come up trumps.

Seasons Greetings and thank you for replying.
I only have two clues to the background of Dennis Boyle born about 1831,a birth location of Ireland on Census Records and from his 1859 marriage to Ann Miller also from Ireland.
The marriage reference to Dennis's parents says" Bernard Boyle, Farm Labourer (deceased) and Sarah Boyle Ne McGonegall

Addendum to my last.
I now realize that the Northern Ireland reference is invalid and the search is now Ireland wide.

Have you checked these? Often if any of them emigrated to the US they may figure in records there and these often ask for father's or mother's birthplaces and can have more details than just Ireland.
You have posted on the Co Londonderry board and there are Boyles, Millers and McGonigals in this County but these names also appear in Donegal and others. Did you have a feeling that the family was from Co Londonderry?

Is this the census you are referring to?

For Shanreagh
Thanks for your support and stimulation
The Full 1851 Census page containing Dennis Boyle aged 15 links in very well with the information on Dennis's 1859 marriage document.
55 Bacadillly ? Street, Barony, Glasgow
Sarah Boyle Widow 50 Housewife Ireland
Cath Boyle Unmarried 23 Cotton Mill Worker Ireland
Ann Boyle Unmarried 18 Ditto Ireland
Dennis Boyle Unmarried 15 Dockworker Ireland
An adjacent family is called McGonigle
A good fit I think, which, if it is my family means the marriage in Ireland of Sarah McGonnigal and Bernard Boyle occurred before 1828.
Another "fit" is from Dennis's marriage document, a Catherine Boyle was a witness
If this is correct and it looks good to me I need to search the Whole of Ireland for the pre. 1828 marriage of Bernard and Sarah.
Happy Christmas

Unfortunately that won't work. Not all church records from that period survive (and of those that do not all are online) or there could be another couple with the same/similar names so you could end up 'finding' the wrong family in the wrong area (unfortunately a problem when both names are very common).
Were any children born in Scotland?
-
The 1851 census is the only family record I’ve found and with Dennis the youngest at home at 15 it doesn’t seem likely that any births occurred in the Uk. I have looked for. A Uk Bernard Death in the Uk.
So it looks that I’m at the end of the line at least for the moment.
Many Thanks

Don't give up yet. Next step is to trace siblings of Dennis Boyle to see if they list a more exact place of birth.

I think I would get this marriage certificate if I could to see if there is a more exact place of birth.

I hope you get some sleep, you are spending a lot of time looking after me.
Sorry to say I’m not comfortable with the Owen Smith marriage for two reasons. The census repeatedly says Catherine was born in Scotland and her father seems to have been alive. It’s also just occurred to me that at Dennis’s wedding Catherine was listed as a Boyle not a Smith.
I still feel comfortable with th 1851 record showing a widowed Sarah. As I can’t see this family in the 1841 census it does seem likely they came to Scotland after then.
I’m full of cold so Christmas has been put on hold

Don't worry am in NZ so not working all hours of the day and night. Just a bit puzzled...perhaps if you let us know exactly where you are stuck. You obviously have access to sites that have told you that the 1841 census listing for Catherine is not correct and by implication the mother came after that time and neither is the marriage, though I did explain the only parameter I used was father's name Bernard. My thought is that if you found the mother in 1841, you could close the gap to finding when Bernard died. But if this 1841 Catherine is not hers then please confirm.
Scotlands People is the go to site for Scotland but I rarely use paid sites. Ancestry is another one.
Genealogists do circle around a bit verifying and seeing what may be there but if you have seen these records before and have disregarded them then it is good if you let us know.
Have you checked the BMDs of the siblings of Dennis before?
Where exactly are you stuck (ie death of Bernard) and what sites have you checked to come to the realisation you are stuck ( eg not on SP or Ancestry, not on census for xxxx)?
Hope you feel better soon and good idea to postpone the tucking in treats of Christmas.

Did Catherine Boyle sign the register at the wedding in 1859 or make a mark?
-
Shanreagh
Catherine Boyle made her mark.
You asked earlier what my prime interest is. I would like to link back into Ireland and hopefully more generations.
Looking back to why I started the search on Rootschat Derry page. I was influenced at the time by the 1881 records for Dennis Boyle c 1836 family. The family appears to have scattered with best fits for members at various addresses. The probable record for Dennis c 1835 although giving a different age of 40 said he came from Co. Derry.

PS Cold easier but still not into the "Christmas Tucker"

Back again. Thanks for info re Dennis and Co Derry. So the 1881 census from ?? mentioned Co Derry. That is a step forward that I am not sure we had before. Did the same census mention where Dennis' wife came from in Ireland.
Do you know when his mother died?
Some sources to have a look through
http://www.billmacafee.com/
Look for:
tithe aplotment records
spinning wheel records
I cannot find this really helpful one by Boyd Gray who has ancestors in Londonderrry and explains his technique of triangulation.
This is the Boyd Gray

Check Griffiths Valuation for Boyle & McGonigle records, may be family left behind
Has your searching so far thrown up any clues as to when Bernard Boyle died? Did he go to Scotland with them? If so where in Scotland is he buried?
