Daughter of Benjamin White, Clara wa born 1898, married Thomas Flannery at Coleford in 1916. Thomas died in 1919.
Grace went on to have a son Alfred Flannery b 1924 recorded at St Pancras, London. Father's name listed as Alfred James Flannery but no marriage of Grace to Alfred James can be found. Can anyone offer any help, please?
I wonder if Alfred James was a brother or cousin of Thomas? Perhaps she didn't marry Alfred James at all and Alfred was born out of wedlock.

Have you found Thomas on any census which could establish if Arthur James was related?
According to a Thomas Flannery's burial record he was 28 when he died therefore birth year of c.1891. He died in Nottinghamshire General Hospital.

On the marriage cert for Grace and Thomas in 1916, Thomas' residence was recorded as Ripon, his father's name was Martin Flannery, farmer.
Hopefully the above info may help to find Thomas on a census.

Do you have the death cert for Thomas in 1919? The reason I ask is that by doing a free search of the 1939 register Grace is living in Islington with Thomas born 1891. In the household is also an Elsie Grace May Flannery born 1922.

I was just going to post that info,but I didn't know whether I'd got myself in a mix up somewhere along the line...I also saw a marriage on FreeBMD for a Grace Flannery to a Harry Hardwick back in The Forest of Dean,1953.

You're on the same 'wavelength' as me as I was just about to post Grace's marriage to Harry Hardwick :)

Hi JJ and thank you very much for your replies. First off, sorry my original post did state Clara erroneously, hence, the change to Grace.
I have not seen a Census to show any relationship between Thomas & Alfred although I understand Thomas's death was recorded at Beeston, Nottinghamshire.
If you or anyone else could check the 1891 or 1901 Censuses I would be very grateful.
Grace did go onto marry Harry Hardwick and then in 1961 Harry's brother William

Apologies for asking this but are you quite sure that the above death of Thomas is the correct one for who you are researching, do you have the death cert? The 1939 register appears to show that Thomas is still very much alive in 1939 and living with Grace.

I am helping a friend with her tree and she has shown me a death cert dated 1919 of a Thomas Flannery who she understand is him but now you have come up with the 1939 England/Wales Register that obviously sheds a different light on things.
I have also seen sight of Alfred Flannery's birth cert of 1924 showing his father as Alfred James Flannery.
Are you able to provide details of the household on the 1939 Register?
