Title: Elizabeth McCabe, Scotland to Australia, c, 1928
Post by: Willison on Sunday 27 January 19 19:27 GMT (UK)
Hi,
Looking for information on Elizabeth Hislop McCabe, born 1901, Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland who emigrated to Australia c. April 1928. (she may have been accompanied by a sister, name unknown at this point).
She (or they) supposedly settled in Sydney and supposedly worked "in service" (as a domestic servant presumably).

Very sparse information I know (supplied by my mother in law who is now 90, the above Elizabeth was her aunt) but can anyone throw any light on this Elizabeth Hislop McCabe who arrived in Australia aged about 27 in 1928, or possibly a subsequent spouse, and descendants?

Thank you in advance for any assistance,

Willison  :)

Wow, that was fast Keyboard86. Thank you so much for that.
This is definitely the correct people as I have just established after submitting my post that the sister was Grace from within previous notes I had made.
That's a great start. Presumably you have access to ships' manifests. Any sign of any other records showing if the girls' married and had families. If not, can you suggest any sources to contact,
thank you once again.

A possible burial at Rookwood Cemetery:

Grace CHILTON 83 15-6-1989 3-7-1989 Zone F Independent Lawn C 686

The death, which could possibly show parents to confirm it’s the correct burial, won’t be online until June this year.

Hi Keyboard86, Jamjar and cupoflife,

Thank you all for the information you have supplied above. My wife is going to relay all to her mother, who is the niece of Elizabeth and Grace McCabe. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Incidentally, "some relatives from Australia" presumably Grace, or descendants of hers, or of her sister Elizabeth's reportedly came to Scotland "in the 80s" to look up family and/or friends. I will now attempt some detective work to find out if there are any living descendants of the ladies.

Best regards
Willison  :)
