Having great difficulty in finding a death for John Ellis Hughes.
John born 1844 (c) Withington Gloucestershire, in 1869 he marries Eliza Jane Richards. In 1883 Eliza remarries, her 2nd husband being George William New and on the certificate she is a widow. But I cannot find a death for John before 1883 nor can I find any children born in Gloucestershire.
Any help would be appreciated

Probably because he's alive and well, living in London with various family members until at least 1901! In 1871 he says he's married, but after that he's single

Thanks Mabel, Had a feeling that may be the case. As John had disappeared off to London its possible that Eliza Jane thought she may be a widow? Is there a 7 year law that after that time if no sign of him one presumes he has died?

It happened quite a bit that couples separated or one abandoned the other and the one left behind quietly claimed to be a widow, or single in order to remarry in due course
There's a potential death in Kensington in 1922 - right age, location and middle initial but haven't found a candidate on 1911 as yet
