Susannah Onions - 16 April 1785 - Dawley Magna.  Both made their mark.

Image definitely says Onions, but transcription says Priors  :-\

Not unknown but you'd have to do more research to confirm. Unless you already have Susannah as his cousin from earlier information.

You will need to look at the marriage certificate.  There is something written on there that could read spinster but it may have been crossed out.

It doesn't help that the person writing up the marriage entries is not consistent.  The only other alternative is to see what it says in the Bishop's Transcripts - held at Stafford Records Office (Dawley came under the jurisdiction of the Lichfield Diocese).

It looks as though Benjamin dies in 1791 - buried 5 April at Dawley Magna

6 August 1792 - Dawley Magna

William Bates, bachelor and Susannah Onions, widow, married by Banns.

Dawley Magna:

Onions:

Susannah - daughter of Thomas and Susannah - baptised 14 March 1767 (is this Susannah who married Benjamin Onions and then William Bates?)

William - son of Benjamin and Susannah - 5 February 1786
Ann - daughter of Benjamin and Susannah - 9 December 1787
Elizabeth - daughter of Benjamin and Susannah - 25 December 1789

Bates:  (Susannah appears as either Susannah or Shusannah)

Sarah - daughter of William and Susannah - 30 May 1793 (entry transcribed as burial, but image reads baptised  :o)
Sarah - daughter of William and Susannah - 30 June 1794
Susannah - daughter of William and Susannah - 11 June 1797
