I have recently come across a photo that MIGHT be a relative when younger. Can anyone recommend software that will compare 2 images and come up with a guesstimate? There are many out there but hopefully someone here will have used one.

Hi Simon, If you scan them and post them here, there is a chance that we may be able to compare similar features and bones structure by overlaying the two images, something that Gadget is very good at.

There's an app on Apple that let's you see what you'd look like as you age.

Perhaps if you can put in the earlier photo and 'age' it, you could make a comparison with the older one you have.
I haven't used it so don't know if this is a possibility.
Evidently all the rage with the young people at the moment!

In the end I guess it all comes down to what one thinks.

Looks like a good match to me, face shape and eyes match even with weight gain. Shame you cannot see the ears more clearly on the first picture.

I've flicked the young one and lined up the photos using the eye level but not sure if they are the same. The noses and, especially, the mouths don't line up.
See what others think.

added - also different chin shape, even allowing for weight gain.

I would say the younger man is not the same person as the older man. I am no expert though.
-
I'm not convinced they are the same man either - I don't think the hairlines match in so far as you can see the younger man's, I don't think the noses are the same shape and I would have expected the older man's eyebrows to be more obvious, especially in the 1959 photo when he still has some colour in his hair.

Thanks all. I tend to agree with you, not him.
Frustrating exercise isn't it? Of course these days we're all labelling our photos with full details aren't we?

You could probably use the "Compare a Face" facility on familysearch to do this

I think 1 and 2 same man as both have clefts in chin and faces look similar allowing for ageing
