Title: Convicts to Western Australia
Post by: Maggie Speak on Sunday 28 July 19 05:44 BST (UK)
As a volunteer project for the East Perth Cemeteries website, I have written biographies for the following convicts who were transported to Western Australia.

William Rhodes 1820-1891 Convict No. 1498
George Steel 1824-1865 Convict No.282
John Richards 1823-1897 Convict No. 453
John Sellinger or Salinger 1832-1906 Convict No. 2400
George Ryder or Rider 1824-1889 Convict No. 972
Joseph Ledger or Sowden 1824-1895 Convict No. 7551

I am happy to share these stories if it will help anyone in their research. :)

Hello
I'm a bit late in seeing this post.

I'm interested in George Ryder convict no. 972.

I'd be very grateful if you still have details about him.

Thanks Maggie.
George's story has some similarities to my Ryder family, father in Royal Artillery regiment, service in Ireland.
I'll follow him up to see if his descendants, if any, are DNA matches.
Your references to resources are spectacular. Thank you.

You are very welcome Gen  :)
I believe that providing references to resources is just as important as the story itself. They provide proof and credibility. Without them, it's just a story.
Cheers Maggie

Hi Gen

The state library Western Australia is online and has good info about convicts. So does Fremantle prison online.
