Title: WHITTLE/ROBINSON emigration
Post by: treegirl on Tuesday 30 July 19 18:49 BST (UK)
Hi -

I am trying to find out about a possible emigration of Florence ROBINSON (nee WHITTLE) and her brother, Walter WHITTLE from Leicester to Canada at some point in the early 1900s. Florrie's husband had the initial W.

Details are sketchy at best! I'm not sure if they were both still in Leicester for the 1911 census or whether they had already left by then.

Florence/Florrie was born around 1890 and Walter around 1894.

I was hoping to find details about their journey and where they ended up settling once they arrived. Can anyone help?! I realise that there's not much to go on ....

Many thanks in advance,

TreeGirl :)

Brilliant!

Thanks, NooshieW - We can rule out their departure date being before 1911, then!

I've only recently discovered this branch of the family after years of trying to trace Sarah SMITH - my ggrand aunt - who became Sarah WHITTLE .... hence the vagueness!!

There is an immigration record for a Walter Whittle 1920 to Quebec, but cannot read the details.
Also a Walter who emigrated no earlier than 1919 on another record and he is from Leicester.

Walter Whittle m Rose H Marshall 4/1916 Leicester 7a 449

Now found Rose Whittle's Canada, Ocean Arrival Form , confirming she arrived in Canada with her husband .

Edit : It looks like they remained in England after returning in 1921. Check the 1939 Register in Leicester for them.

Are you sure about the Florence marriage to a Mr Robinson? I can see two marriages for a Florence Whittle in Leicester - both in 1915 and nether involving a Robinson

Wow! Wow! Wow!

Just checked this morning and amazed by all of your findings, Nooshie, Mabel and Christine! Thank you SO much!

I'm thinking now that the sister that Walter was going to join in Canada might have been a sister in law - Rose's sister - which would explain why there is no marriage of Florence to a Mr Robinson!

Thank you for all your look ups - much appreciated.

Thank you everyone. Don't think the Gilroes info is useful, but good to know that Florence lived near her brother Edward in 1939! What road were they on?

Really appreciate all the help!
