Hi, I am related through my paternal grandmother to John Michell's youngest daughter Anne (1706-1744), who eloped with the vicar's son Thomas Drayton (1705-1778) and married in Dorchester. This query is about Anne's sister Elizabeth. She was baptised at St Andrew's, Chardstock, on 4 Aug 1702. When her father made his will in 1732 Elizabeth was single but by the time it was proved in 1733 she had married John Roundsevell (Rounsevell). I'd like to know more about her husband because I am related to the Cornwall Rounsevells through my paternal grandfather. I found Elizabeth's baptism OK but can't find their marriage (which is not in the Chardstock OPC material). Elizabeth, Anne and her husband Thomas are buried together at Chardstock, but John Rounsevell is not there. Any information, on the Rounsevell-Michell marriage or anything else about John Rounsevell would be greatly appreciated. Geoff Turner (Brisbane, Australia)

Thanks Solidrock, I had seen the Brian Loomes info, very informative about the family as well as the clocks. I had also seen the Wyke-Regis baptism but wasn't sure that was him. It does seem more likely than one in 1705 at Ottery St Mary that I have seen suggested, given Elizabeth was apparently born in 1701 and baptised in 1702. I find it unusual that they were apparently not married at Chardstock given the family was so well established there.

Thanks Jan. That’s where I found some of the Chardstock material.

Hi - I keep reading about how John's son Thomas 'eloped' and married his wife. I am struggling to find the evidence for this - only hearsay - can anyone help?
(I am direct descent of Thomas).

sorry, wrong couple. They married at Dorchester in 1724.... just looking for origin of the oft repeated story that he was the vicar of Chardstock....
