I have a painting that is labelled as the Gas house, Ruabon. I have googled the name but all I get is agency listings for houses to rent/buy. ::)
Does/did this place exist? Or am I on a fruitless search? Is the name just a nickname and therefore that's why I can't find anything about it?
Has anyone heard of this house or know anything about it?
Thanks for reading.

There's ref to a Job Jones, residing at the Gas House, Ruabon , who was killed while loading bricks near the station. on 1 October 1889, in the Cambridge Daily Mail.

Thanks very much Gadget. I thought it was a made up house! Someone called Rose lived there at some point. I have no idea when she did, but I would presume this was within the last 100 years. I am just waiting to download a pic of the house, but the technology is slow! Then I will upload it.

I am having trouble uploading as it says it's too big a file... :-\

If it is where the Gasometer is/was, it's close to what was, in my day, the Boys Grammar School.
I'd really love to see the picture :)
Can you reduce it to less that 500kb. Otherwise, I could make it smaller for you - send me a PM.

Hope this works!

Gadget - is this the Gas House then? Does it still exist?
-
It's not showing in the Address finder.
WRJones lives in that area so I'll PM him to see if he knows.

I'm not entirely sure where it is I'm afraid.I know someone who might know so I'll be back.

I'm told it was between the Great Western Public House(now closed) and the Railway Station.

I've also e-mailed Morganllan to see if she knows if it still exists.

I've just heard from Morganllan:
Apparently it's near the old Great Western Railway pub, known as the Nant in my days at Ruabon. It's still there apparently and has a turret now
Someone has posted on Llangollen and Ruabon history Facebook page "This is the Brewery and Great Western Inn Ruabon

Another e-mail from Morganllan with a couple of clips from Google maps. I could put a clip up but I think it would be breaching copyright.
So ~
On Google maps, if you home in to W.End Terrace/Afon Eitha, it's the long curved building in grey with the central turret.
