Title: Eileen Houlihan
Post by: Andro93 on Friday 29 November 19 21:43 GMT (UK)
Hello. Eileen E Houlihan was born in either 1920 or 21, we think in Clonmel. She married Geoffrey Grais in London in 1949. I cannot find her birth on the civil registration indexes, and wonder if anyone knows anything about Eileen and her ancestors.

There were 5 children born to that marriage between 1951 & 1962.  Are you in touch with any of them as they may be able to answer your questions.

Buying a copy of the marriage cert will give you her fathers name

Geoffrey Gustav Grace born 6.9.1924 died 1993 in Essex & Eileen Elizabeth Grais died 2013 aged 92

CaroleW   Eileen is deceased. I have been doing research since I was at school, and am now 60. I do not wish to pay for the marriage certificate, as I am doing research for someone else. I have to pay my rent.

If you are researching for somebody else then surely they would be paying for the certificate - not you?

Perhaps if you can make contact with her family it may be easier.  Possibly the undertaker could pass on a message for you if they still have details of whoever arranged her funeral

Carole,  I know all about the Grais family and that Eileen died in 2013. What we hope to find are people in Tipperary who may know about her parents and grandparents, for example.

As I mentioned above - perhaps her children would be the best people to ask.  They would know who their grandparents were and may even have details of other relatives.

Eileen was born around 1921 and had been in England since at least 1949 when she married and possibly earlier.   She would have had to maintain contact with people/relatives in Tipperary who are still alive for anybody there to remember her and in particular - be able to provide the information you want.

Have you looked for a birth registration for her in Ireland - buying a copy of the birth cert will give her parents names

Which site have you been searching the indexes.
Irish Genealogy doesn't go to the 1920s yet, you need to use FamilySearch.

The only birth on FS is 1923 Kilmallock (Limerick)  and no middle name

Eileen's marriage certificate should list father's name and occupation (unless illegitimate). The names of witnesses might help if they are related.
If you can't make contact with any of Eileen's descendants then the marriage certificate might be the next step.
