I have used this site many times when I get stuck on a family history block.
I am trying to trace information regarding my great grandmother, Susan Peterson Nee Bauldry.
Susan was born in Grimsby in 1879. She married my great grandfather Peter Frederick Petersen 21 October 1896 clee Lincolnshire. Peter died in 1917 Liverpool.
They had two children Grandad Rodmund Frederick Peterson DOB 22/1/1902 Hull.
Edwin Peterson DOB 1909 Liverpool
Susan moved back to Hull and married Henry Bennet in Hull June 1919.
That’s where the trail drops off. I don’t have any details of her death or if she had more children?
Regards
Keith

Using FreeBMD, I cannot see any children for Susan and Henry Bennett - after 1911 mother's maiden name is shown in the index, and this would be Susan's original maiden name = Bauldry.
I cannot give details but Susan (married) and her two sons are shown in the 1939 Register.

I note the birth was registered in Caistor Lincolnshire Dec 1879 as Susan Baldry. If you know the date of birth you may be able to find Susan on the 1939 register. However I do not see any deaths for the name in England.
Colin
-
Peter and Susan had at least 3x children ( 1x died before census 1911 )
Be careful of the spelling of Petersen/Peterson/Bauldry/BALUDRY/Baldry and Bouldry
-
When married Henry she was Susan Peterson, I note BumbleBs post but I wonder if this is a son?
Births Mar 1929 Bennett David J Petersen Swansea
Colin
-
There is a 1927 Swansea marriage Mary Peterson / Sidney Bennett
More likely to be the parents of David J?

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the update..
I am this morning trying to crack this one.
Proving slightly difficult

1911 - Susan said to be born Grimsby. 1939 gives year of birth as 1877.
December quarter 1877 - Caistor registration district (which covers Grimsby) - Susan Baldry - mmn = Moore (from GRO).

My g grandfather came to England from the Faroe Islands & his surname was Petersen but during the Great War changed it to Peterson, but it did him no good as he was murdered in one of the docks in Liverpool. So yes I take on board regarding surname spellings.

Perhaps I've got it wrong in 1939!
I found Susan Bennett living in Hull and born 1877 in the same household as people with Peterson surname.

Ray,
Very very interesting Edwin was my great uncle.
The interesting thing is, his father was a Methodist & my grandfather Rodmund was christened in an Anglican Church in Hull.
So I am surprised Edwin was baptised in an RC church, but there could be a good explanation. He was born severely disabled and was unable to do most ordinary things for himself. Perhaps G Gran & grandad wanted gods blessing ?
I never looked at RC records

What document was she listed in ?

1939 Register - Susan Bennett living in Hull, born 1877 with two people with Peterson surname, one of whom was said to be "unfit for work". This ties in with your latest post related to Edwin.

Ray,
My fault I should have checked his death certificate ...it was my fault a typo ..yes he died 10 Jan 1943... my g gran Susan had a torrid year 1943 because Edwin died earlier in the year & then my grandfather Rodmund died 15 November 1943.

So, according to your tree . . . . .
Susan died 1969
Henry died 1954
What happened to Harry ?

Hi BumbleB,

Ray,
I notice in the 1911 census Susan lists having 2 children born alive or still alive in 1911 & sadly she had 3 children one listed in 1911 as dead ..
Keith
Thanks Ray ..

Ray,
Thanks for the email attachments I have investigated Harry Peterson..
He was born, June 1913 in Toxteth Liverpool mother’s maiden name Susan Bouldry ...it has to be my great Gran ...too much of a coincidence that he pops up in Hull along with Edwin Susan in Hull in 1938..
I am going to order his birth certificate
There we go you just don’t know what might crop up ... :D
Keith

I trust you're going to order the pdf version from GRO - £7.00 instead of £11.00 ;)

Ray,
I owe my mum an apology & a box of chocs, because for many years she mentioned a Harry her dads brother but I didn’t have any proof that there was a Harry, until today. She said he was a boxer perhaps a Royal Navy boxer and he moved to Australia & her was perhaps blind or had issues with his sight?
I thought it was just a distant family story ..
With both you and Ray I have possibly found him at last

There is a newspaper snippet dated 1943 (FindMyPast)
Pte Harry Peterson, East Yorkshire regiment lost at sea. It says he was well known in Hull as a boxer, ‘Young Jack Peterson’.
It also though mentions his mother as ‘Mrs Peterson’ of 59 Greek Street :-\

"59 Greek Street" = I've seen that this afternoon, haven't I?

Heywood,
Most certainly
Mum would have been very young she was born in 1935 so it could have a story passed down from the adults.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped me today
I will be phoning my mum tonight and she will be over the moon with all of the information gained today
I have subsequently found out that Harry Peterson served with the 5th Bn the East Yorkshire Regiment. In 1942 was a POW of the Italians. He was being transferred by ship “Nino Bixio” in the Med the ship was torpedoed by a British sub HMS Turbulent. There were a number of men not found after the ship was hit. Harry’s name is recorded on the Alamein memorial. Oh and he was a boxer in Hull. So my mum childhood story was somewhat true. She was told a relative was a boxer and was a sailor. Only at the time she was only 12 so may have overheard & in her mind it was true it’s just that she git it mixed up.. Thanks everyone on roofs chat, because in less than a day a child’s story from 71 years ago it can be corrected and mum will tonight will hear all about the true story of her uncle Harry.
Thanks 🙏
Keith
