It seems to be a fairly limited number of archives listed so far. I wonder what the others are going to do? It doesn't include either of the archives I am likely to visit.

I was at Northumberland Archives last week and one of the archivists asked me to register for the new system and give him feed back on how easy (or not) it was. Found the registration to be easy, the new cards require a photo of the applicant. You are given three choices: (1) Upload an existing head and shoulders pic; (2) Use your web cam to take a photo and upload that (3) Have the archives take a photo - if you use this option, you have to do it within three months of initial registration.
When you go to the archives you are required to take two forms of identification with you. The types of ID are listed on the registration web page.

Hmm, I can see I'll have to subject myself to having a photograph taken.... hate that!

Why do they need the photograph, I wonder. Is there a high incidence of people accessing the archives using someone else's card?
I have reservations about yet another database holding my personal details as well as a photograph.
We do not know how secure this will be.
