I have Margaret until the 1881 census when she is living at home with her parents Charles Millar and Isabella Stevenson she is a dressmaker .
On family search I have found she died on the 31st May 1934 in Detroit Wayne Michigan her married name is Hughes .
There is no marriage for her on SP who did she marry where and did she have any family ?

Interesting burial was Toronto 2/6/1934 - had been a USA resident for 20 years.
This could be the FIND A GRAVE entry. (Except it says Margaret Millard Hughes ???)

There is a possibility on the 1911 Census 167 Selmuenda Toronto
William Hughes 64 born March 1957 England. Imnm 1905.
Margreta Hughes34 born August 1859 so the age should be more like 52
Archie Hughes 15 born England 1895.

Apologies I thought I had written her date of birth it was 22nd of August 1856 in Dalkeith Midlothian
Scotland She has no middle names on birth cert.

Think the middle name given on find a grave was meant to be Millar not Millard - they often use the maiden name on these entries.

On family search I have found she died on the 31st May 1934 in Detroit Wayne Michigan her married name is Hughes .
She died at 10410 East Jefferson, Chateau Frontenac Apt 6M
her length of residence in Detroit: about 3 years
her length of residence in US: about 20 years

are the Hughes relatives?

If all the numbers are right in that 1940 census in the last post, then maybe Kathleen Smith's maiden name was Hughes.
The Smiths were in Detroit in 1934 when Margaret (Millar) Hughes died, but Charles & Mary Hughes were in Chicago, at least in 1935.
Why would Margaret be living with a non-relative?
If so, could this be a case of siblings marrying siblings?

So could we presume there might be a Charles Hughes/Kathleen Hughes and Archie Hughes. ???
We have Archie presumably born England - can't quite read that on the 1911 but they all immigrated 1905.
Charles Hughes born Canada. Kathleen Hughes born Canada ???

On the 1911 census for William, Margaret & son Archie Hughes, you can see Charles & Katherine Smith listed below them. Katherine is born England and immigrated in 1905, same as for William, Margaret & son Archie.

This might not be them after all. I found a couple births in Birkenhead to a Hughes - Miller couple and the children's names don't match the couple in Toronto
Just in case, the childrens names were:
