William Hampson was a director of the Bedford Brewing & Malting Co., Ltd., Brewery Lane, Leigh, from its inception in 1866 and until his death in 1889.
William was born in Leigh on 23 February 1811, married first wife, Rachel (marriage details unknown) who was born c. 1825 and died 20 November 1860, married second wife, Matty (marriage details unknown) who was born c. 1824 and died 23 January 1872 and then died himself in Leigh on 9 October 1889. Much of the data above was found on a gravestone.
I subscribe to Find My Past but am having difficulty tracing relevant census data. Would welcome help.

The marriage fits but the age at death doesn't tie in with the MI details (died 1889 aged 78)

According to the MI the first recorded wife was called Rachel and the second wife was called Matty but I cannot discount him having had three wives but the above doesn't fit the other knowns we have.
-
Does the gravestone say Rachel was the first wife? She seems to have been his second wife, and Matty the third.

Am now looking to find full birth details (date and place) for William's three wives, please.

The tree interfering with a proper view of William Hampson's MI has been removed by the Leigh Cemetery ground staff, now revealing his age at death being 72 and not 78 as originally transcribed. I post this on the off chance that another researcher might be interested in the same family.
