Title: Look up please electoral roll for c.1921Auckland: John CAMPBELL
Post by: ValJJJ on Friday 10 April 20 20:57 BST (UK)
I'm assuming NZ electoral rolls are digitised and online/available to Ancestry subscribers?

I f so I'd be grateful if someone could please check the occupation of a John Campbell who I've found listed as a member of the Freemasons Lodge of Harmony, Otahuhu, with residence noted as Otahuhu. He was initiated in March 1921.  Age 24 so dob around 1897.  The entry for his occupation is difficult to read and could be biograph operator (i.e. a cinema projectionist) or diagraph operator (using the diagraph instrument to copy plans etc at a different scale).

This is assuming occupations are listed in electoral rolls?  They aren't shown in UK records, unless someone has a business vote, but it would be really helpful if they were!

Thanks for indulging my curiosity.

Val

Frustratingly creased newspaper notice from 1926

Hi Val,

As you have posted on the Resources and Offers Board, (easily done), I have asked for this to moved to the Main Board.

Cheers

The crease is Hope. Mervyn Hope Campbell. I got all excited because he had a brother b 1896 named Noel Johnston Campbell. As you can see. But no, before and up to 1925 that family are in Birkenhead.  (Then they moved to Arney Road, Remuera. One of the posh streets.
Noel’s WW1 ballot says he is a Clerk.

Thanks Kiwihalfpint - I've managed to post to the wrong board before and am not sure why!  Need to look more carefully I suppose?

Thanks Mckha489 - that's quite a family of Campbells isn't it?

Newspapers are a great source of information but can be a lot to trawl through if you're looking for a common name.  But biograph operator certainly narrows it down a bit.

Thanks to everyone for their efforts.
