Title: Charles Blyth Young
Post by: pomp on Thursday 21 May 20 13:03 BST (UK)
Hi everyone

I'm trying to get a hook into this family so I can start working back from the 1911 census. But I'm struggling to get going. At the moment I'm looking at the male line, but can't find Charles on the 1939 register. Blyth seems to be a bit of a family name, ancestors might have that as middle names

Marriage record
Sep Q 1940 Bristol
Charles Young
Catherine C Williams

Ian Robert Blyth Young
b. 8 May 1948 Bristol

Birth record
JuQ 1948, Bristol
Mother’s maiden name Williams

Hopefully one of you ninjas might be able to help

Many thanks

David

Is the 1948 birth still living as you will have to remove their name if they are.

Charles may have been in the armed forces in which case he would not appear on the 1939 register.  Rootschat does not allow us to do 1939 lookups.

Presume you are guessing at a middle name or do you have any proof his middle name was Blyth?

Apart from his marriage year - what other info do you have?

Unless you know his birthyear from a death registration - you need to buy a copy of the 1940 marriage cert to establish his age/occupation & his fathers name and occupation

Thanks Carole - I suspect this may be the bottom line

The Blyth is a certainty to the best of family knowledge

Didn't you check that birth on GRO online?  B stands for Blane - not Blyth

If you are referring to that record or one before freebmd shows them on their index.

ADDED. If you are just trying to find * Blyth Young then you can search freebmd using * Blyth

The son b 1948 died 2016 but married and had 2 children b 1972 & 1975.

Are they able to provide any info re their grandfather?  The 1907 birth died 1976 shortly after the children’s births but they were adults when their grandmother died in 1998

What is your interest in this Charles Young and where does he fit into your FH?

Hi Carole

I have asked my friend to see if he can get more information so that we can get a firm anchor point. I have dabbled with FH over the years starting with mine. In periods when I have some spare time, like now, I come back to it asking friends if they would like some research. I enjoy the detective hunt of unlocking problems but am no where near as experienced as many on here, hence the ask for help. As a teacher in a the local secondary school I don't routinely get much spare time so I'm back infrequently on here.

Best wishes

David

No problem.  Sometimes it can help if we know how somebody fits into FH.  It's amazing the number of people who find they have been researching the wrong ancestor

Is your friend sure he has the right marriage?
