Hi.
Looking to order a death certificate. Years ago I always ordered through Antony Lambert and was able to specify a name, birthplace, or informant to make sure I was getting the correct one. He is no longer offering this service. :'(
In FreeBMD there are 2 deaths for Joseph Smith in West Derby. One is Sep quarter, 1874, age 51. The other is Dec quarter, 1874, age 54. Also found a RC burial for a Joseph Smith, Nov. 1874 but it shows his age at 61. 1871 census has him at age 54.
Any ideas of how to narrow the chances of getting the correct one?
Thanks.

Joseph Smith buried Toxteth Park Cemetery, 9 Sep 1874, age 51, Boot Maker, from a Hospital
Joseph Smith buried Anfield Cemetery, 6 Nov 1874, age 54. Abode 14 Woodside Street.
You could order a pdf of the entry from the GRO for just £7 rather than buy a certificate.

1871 census has him at age 54.
There's more than one in Liverpool. Give more details and someone will be along to help.

Strangely enough I have an 1871 census entry from a few years ago for Joseph Smith, wife Mary living in West Derby RG 10/3844, folio 139, page 25 with children Thomas, Elizabeth, Catherine, Esther, Eleanor ? and nephew John Walsh, all born in Ireland. Thought these may have been Mary Ann Smith Sherriff McDonald's parents. Possible Joseph died which is why Mary Ann Smith Sherriff McDonald's mother is living with them in 1881. Have never pursued this family further as the UK has few hints for BMD and require ordering the registrations. Have paid for too many wrong registrations LOL.

Thanks for the info!
Joseph Smith, 54, born Ireland.
For those who may wish to help, link to free transcript of that 1871 census on FamilySearch

Thank you jonw65. Responding to your quote regarding the 1871 census, I have recently found Mary Ann Smith's Ireland baptism through rootsireland. Joseph and Mary Smith from the 1871 census are definitely her family. One of the reasons I am interested in ordering the death certificate. Woodside Street also a confirmation as family lived there in 1876. Thank you for the references.
Was not aware you could order a PDF of a certificate but will certainly look into that option. Thanks again.
