Hi
Does anyone have access to the marriage registers for Chesterton? I'm interested in finding out who Harold A Fosters father was, which I'm hoping will be mentioned on his marriage entry. I know his birth was registered in Chesterton in 1914 but I don't know who his parents were, other than their surnames were Foster and Hopson. I also know who he married, this was Ruth D Creek.
Thanks in advance
George

Have you tried looking on freebmd for a Foster and Hopson marriage before 1914
-
I know his birth was registered in Chesterton in 1914
You can apply for a copy of his birth certificate or as Rosie suggests look for a marriage with the surnames you have.

yeh i didnt find anything, perhaps hopson was a widow when she got married to foster. That might be why she's not showing up in the various indexs, or more likely it's a mistranscription.

There is one in 1904 Walsall with those surnames on Free BMD :)

If you look at births after 1912 for foster and mmn Hopson there are two registered Chesterton followed by two registered in walsall
-
Thanks for that.
I noticed the marriage in Walsall. Walsall is quite a long way form Chesterton geographically, also that marriage is in 1904 the first birth is in 1912. Though of course that could be the marriage, people sometimes delay having children, or perhaps they were unfortunate and had miscarriages. It would have been nice to find some actual proof of the name of the father or mother.

Looked into this further. The Peter Foster that married Martha in Walsall in 1904, was an iron worker living with Martha in 1911 near Walsall. tbh still have a lot of doubts that this is the couple I'm looking for.

To look up a marriage - you have to know which church it took place in. If it was a civil marriage it cannot be looked up
Do you know which church they married in? If not - you need to buy his birth cert which will give you more info than his marriage cert

It's at Chesterton st andrew. I think there's a transcription on Cambs & Hunts Family History Society site, but it's £20. I must admit, I'm a bit reluctant to pay all that.

A pdf copy of his birth cert will cost you £7

£7 is that from the GRO?
I found a transcription of the marriage elsewhere by the way. Harolds fathers name was Charles.
For anyone who is interested in this in the future .Also I found both parents of Harold. They were Charles Foster and Mary Ann Hobson married 1894 in Chesterton.

Yes - £7 for a pdf copy of a birth cert between 1837-1919 and death certs from 1837-1957

Mother was Mary Jane Hobson - not Mary Ann. 1911 entry - Harold had a lot of siblings!!
