I am unable to find a birth registration for Alexander Donkin. I have his baptism as 03/03/1850 and know that he was married 25 August 1873 at Horton Parish Church. He died 17/03/1903 of double pneumonia at Bebside, Blyth, Northumberland. Does anyone know where I should be looking to find his birth record apart from Ancestry?
Thanks
Kath

DONKIN, JAMES mmn BLAKE
GRO Reference: 1840 S Quarter in TYNEMOUTH UNION Volume 25 Page 385
1837 Marriage of Parents is on FreeREG

His birth should be registered in Tynemouth R.D. but I can't see it (yet) :-\

You don't say where he was born or who his parents were. The 1861 has 2 entries - one b Cullercoates & one b Warkworth plus one b Durham
Who did he marry - there are 2 Alexander Donkin marriages in 1873 - yours is presumably the one in the September qtr

1851 census has his birth as Cowpen (Tynemouth R.D.)

Horton and Cowpen are extremely close geographically.
They were both in Tynemouth R.D.

You need to sign up for a free account to search and see results.
This database gives mother's maiden names prior to 1911 (which the old GRO index didn't do).
Like others, I can see the birth registrations for the other children on the 1851 census, and they were registered with a MMN of Blake but not spotted one for Alexander.

Slight amendment (before I'm told off :D ) Cowpen was a township of the Parish of Horton. Alexander was baptised at St Mary's Horton on 3rd March 1850. Abode was Cowpen.

Trish mentioned she couldn't find a registration for Robert (born c 1854 per 1861 census)
He is on the GRO site in 1854 but the index has him as DENKIN Robert, mmn Blake
