I am looking for birth and family information of Annie Hartley born 1839 in Ovenden, Yorkshire.
She later moved to Liverpool where she married Charles Henry Jones.
She died in Liverpool in 1884.
She was my Great Great grandmother.
Any information would be much appreciated.

What year was the marriage? Nothing showing on freebmd in Liverpool. There is an 1865 marriage in Staffordshire which has an Annie Hartley & Charles Jones on the same page

The only marriage(s) I can find in the Liverpool area at the right time is an Annie roberts - down as a spinster - to Charles Henry Jones! (4th Oct 1862 - so probably not "her", unless she'd been married before and "forgotten)
Was he a river pilot or something similar? There are a couple of relevant censuses, - 1871 and 1881, which list his wife as being born "Ovenden, Yorkshire".(Sorry, 1871 one put here by CaroleW whilst I was typing)

Ah! In 1841 census in Ovenden, there's an Ann and family:
Henry Hartley 35
Sarah Hartley 30
Mary Hartley 10
Hannah Hartley 7
Elizabeth Hartley 5
Ann Hartley 4
Blakey(?) Hartley 1
That may well be them...
The Father is down as a farmer, looks like "Hatchett Hall" Ovenden.

Yes Annie husband was a Liverpool Steamship Pilot.
I have Annie's death certificate dated 29th Feb 1884.
I have been unable to find the marriage details.
I also have several census records.
Thanks

... and: 1851
Henry Hartley 44
Sarah Hartley 43
Mary Hartley 20
Hannah Hartley 18
Ann Hartley 14
John Hartley 10
Brice Hartley 8
Walton Hartley 3
Here Dad is a handloom weaver of worsted fabric, and they're at Call row, Thornton (near where the
Bronte sisters lived for a time)
Is this any help? I assumed you had the later censuses, of course.

I think that 1865 marriage could be them. There is no other 1871 entry that fits
-
I think you are right, CaroleW. It'd probably, I think, be an R.C. marriage?

Blakey Hartley birth in 1842 Halifax records mmn as GARNET

Interesting, in youngest sibling WALTON Hartley's marriage, he marries a Louisa ROBERTS, and a witness is a Roberts, too - could Mum have been widowed and re-married, and then Ann gone by the surname Roberts, until her own marriage?
Good find, that "Garnet" for Sarah Hartley's maiden name, johnhood.

(Got to go and do things now - sorry)

ppears there is a change in mmn between sq 1840 with the birth of a Henry Hartley mmn recorded as GARNES. Previous birth in dq 1838 was Hannah Hartley mmn GARNETT.
The next birth is sq 1841 John WALTON Hartley mmn WALTON, followed by Blakey, Brice & Walton

Marriage: Henry Hartley of Ovenden Weaver, Bachelor / Sarah Walton Spinster married by banns 22nd April 1829 St John the Baptist Halifax.
We appear to have a mixture of mmn Walton /Garnett/Garnet/Garnes.

Be nice to have a response from Stsyjumi? Online with RC since most of these replies were posted

Oh CarolW, how I agree with you. Perhaps a gentle pm might help.

Hi all, sorry for slow response but I am 6 hours behind you in the US.
I am new at this and did try to respond yesterday but for some reason it did not post.
Regardless, Annie Hartley was RC and the information that I have is all after she arrived in Liverpool and in fact after her marriage which I have not been able to obtain documents for.
In the 1871 & 1881 census her birth place is shown as Ovenden, Yorkshire.
On her death certificate dated Feb 9 1884 she is recorded as age 45
Thanks to veryone for all the help, please bear with this novice.

So: What of the information that has been provided here seems relevant to you, in light of any (other) information you hold? Are you inclined to feel that we have "got" your Ann's early years and family? If you do wish any of us to continue with this, what information are you seeking? It is quite possible she was baptised C of E, and then converted to R.C. for marriage - at that time there would be few openly and resolutely mixed religion marriages, I suspect.
-
I am currently accessing the census for Ovenden which I have found and would agree that Annie seems to be the daughter of Henry & Sarah Hartley. Her birth date seems to be circa 1837 not 1839 as I had previously advised.
I will continue to review and research more information based upon what you have provided.
My sincere thanks to all for the time spent and information provided. I will post any further info that I discover if you are interested.

I Have stumbled on a mystery.
1841 census lists Blakey as 1 year old
1851 census omits Blakey
1891 census lists Blakey as 48 and married to Lucy with a family.
I wonder if he was from different parents in the family?
-
Did he die and that’s why he’s not on 1851 census - there’s this death
Blakey Hartley Age 7
Burial 22 Nov 1846 Illingworth, St Mary
Residence Ovenden Yorkshire

1891 census lists Blakey as 48 and married to Lucy with a family.
I wonder if he was from different parents in the family?
Is this him on 1881 & 1871 census with wife Lucy and children

I believe the Blakey Harley associated with my family was the one that died at 7 years old.
Thanks to everyone for the help, I have enough information now to do my research.
