Title: William Hood 1809-25.10.1892
Post by: softly softly on Saturday 31 October 20 20:05 GMT (UK)
William was a successful business man owning at one time an Iron Foundry business in the Reading area that was later sold to the GWR. He was Mayor of Reading in 1877. Can anyone find any newspaper death announcements or funeral notices please in 1892, I cannot find a thing.

Thanks

John

Hi
OCR text only for me, taking some liberties with it, do check spelling
Berkshire Chronicle,  29 October 1892
Hood— Oct 25, at 1, Holme Villas, Reading, William Hood, aged 83.

That's just a death announcement of course.

Hang on, there's something coming up on page 8 of that same edition!!
Here's some of it
..."He was an excellent man of business, and assiduous and conscientious in all that he had to do, and he rendered good service to the town. He was of a friendly and kindly disposition and was much liked and esteemed by those who knew him. Yesterday (Friday) his funeral took place at the Reading Cemetery. The clergy of Holy Trinity Church (a church of which Hood was for some years churchwarden) ....

Can you get hold of it?

I'm using the BNA search engine. So you should be able to find it on findmypast newspapers.
I was just looking for "Hood" in Berkshire in October 1892 (and going backwards!)

Looking for "Holme Villas " would find the announcement (eventually!) I think it says Holme Villas Beading on the transcript.
Somewhere on page 8 is the obituary, the ocr looks as if it is better for that.
But searching for William Hood may not find anything!

William ought to be in some other papers as well, one would think? But certainly he is in the Berks Chronicle, 29 Oct.
