Bless you.heywood.No wonder gro couldnt find it.
You are amazing! Thank you.
I would never have found that.
How ever did you do it.?
Some of the familyfamily were there at Mounterin in 1901...
Why did the registrar get the name so wrong as both parents could read ans write?
And thank you Kiltglassen for the map.
That is what I have been looking for for so long.
I thought that being baptised at Lusmagh they would have been born there.
-
Thank you again Heywood for Gertrude. I had her baptism .
Interesting !..present at the birth ,Mary Anne Keogh?
Gertrude went to Usa and married a william.
Her sister Emily went with her and married Patrick Thorpe and died in 1934.one daughter,Kathleen.
My mother mentioned a Mary Anne but I haveno idea who she was.
Gertudes birth info at Clonra will help support the Bridget Kevy birth surely.
Spelling was originally Keough ( at Thomas Keough baptism in 1829.)
But I wonder will Kevy be acceptable for Irish citizenship?
Kevy doesnt even sound like Keogh.
I can but try.
-
It is written in the same way 3 times on that birth certificate so I doubt it is a transcription error.
Bridget’s birth is the only Kevy recorded in Parsonstown records.
You have the parents and the baptism though so hopefully it will suffice.
Just to add that I checked baptisms to those parents, then looked for Gertrude and then for Bridget (no surname) in Parsonstown.

Thank you for all that help. Invaluable.
Sorry but have yet another query.
My Thomas Keogh and Mary Bennett had Elliza, baptised Lusmagh 25 Nov 1864. Sps. John Bennett an Ann Egan.
Elliza, Lizzy, is on the 1901 still with her parents and sisters Gertrude and Emily.
But there is a Margaret Keogh birth Beannchar ?Bannagher Offally 4 Nov 1866 parents Thomas Keogh and Mary Bennett.
They lived at Clonra.
So did my Thomas and Mary have twins both born 4th Nov 1866 and Margaret died?
And if she lived why wasnt she baptised at Lusmagh with Eliza?
And are there Bannagher baptisms on line somewhere please as I cannot find them.
Thankyou.
-
You have two different birth years there - 1864 and 1866
Here is Margaret’s birth
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1866/03508/2289945.pdf
Maybe the family called her by a different name?
-
Thyank you Heywood but could not access it.
No both my Eliza and this Banagher Margaret were born Nov 1866.
Family search have two Margaret Keoghs. One they have linked to my Thomas and Mary but it is incorrect .
So I need to find out more to correct it.
Family search have
There was Margaret born 1864 parents Thomas Keogh and Mary Bennett. This an error .it should be Mary Fahy..
They have her born Banagher but though parents came from Ireland the children incl Margaret were all born Macclesfield.
But there is this other Margaet(a) Keogh born to a Thomas and Mary Bennett Nov 4 th 186666 in Banagher
Guess onnly way to be sure is get the certs for both Eliza and Margaret
Maybe it will say, a twin.?

Nope, it won't say twins. There is only one entry... it says Margaret born 24th November 1866 at the bottom of the page (last entry). On the next page the first entry is shown attached....not a twin and a completely different family.

My Thomas Keogh and Mary Bennett had Elliza, baptised Lusmagh 25 Nov 1864. Sps. John Bennett an Ann Egan.

I am confused. The Margaret I posted is born Clonragh. :-\
-
Heywood..sorry! Yes i did write that...slip ofthe finger.
Eliiza was baptised nov 25th 1866.
Bridget was bap 1864.she died in infancy...hence the second Bridget 1870,my Grandma.
just went through them all to make sure.
Kiltaglassan,
Parsonstown?
Probably that Margaret was daughter of the Thomas Keogh in Birr. Not mine.
He was not a farmer.
Mine was.
So many Thomas Keoghs and so many Mary Bennetts!
Thank you both once again. Got got clear now.
-
Heywood.
Just seen your comment
The Margaret I posted was born in Clonragh.
Well I could not access that link so I cant see her.
Clonrah was where mine were.
I am verymuddled with all this.
Why couldnt I access that link you sent.?
I will try again.

Can you provide the link where you have Eliza’s record.
In 1901, Eliza is 30 though so born abt 1870/1
I can’t see a birth though.
-
Parsonstown?

Mine was.
Parsonstown is the Superintendent Registrar's District.
That Thomas Keogh at Clonra(gh) was a farmer.
See the attachment.

Thanks KG.
Lola,
That is the birth I have linked to twice.
I can only see one Thomas Keogh/Mary Bennett family.
Parsonstown became Birr abt 1900 and it looks as though the registrar’s area changed at the same time.
Do you want to list the births you have. If they are baptisms - the parish.
I have seen deaths which I assume are Mary and Thomas. What happened to the daughters?
-
Heywood
Finally managed it!
You are right!Margret, born nov1866 to my thomas and mary...only one thing..Thomas made his mark and my Thomas could read and write!
Yes Eliza is on the 1901 and age is out...but my granny lied about her age too.
Tell me how Mary Bennet Keogh could have twobabies in Nov 186
All the baptisms are on Lusmagh baptisms. Pages very hard to read for old eyes.i had all the baptisms , on the best authority, years ago beforethey were online.
It is a mystery?

Eliza 25th November 1866
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632957#page/67/mode/1up
Margaret was born/registered the same time.
Perhaps they decided to change the name or there was an error.
-
I can see these baptisms in the indexes for Lusmagh parish with parents Thomas and Mary
1858 Mary
1864 Bridget
1866 Eliza
1870 Bridget
1873 Gertrude

Thomas and Mary Bennett married in 1853. In Lusmagh.

Had brother Patrick and sister Mary who wed John McNeall/ neill In 1843. In Lusmagh.
Never found old Toms wife. Both father and son farmed Glaster and Clonragh...on Griffifthds
Old Thomas will is 1855 Nov to Dec.Clonra
. cannot access it.
Bennetts also farmed there or nearby.
Thomas 1829 and Mary Bennett 1833 had nine .
children all baptised Lusmagh except Margret.
Children :
Teresa bap nov 25 1855
Went to Oz and married Mr Alone.
Thomas bap 1 March 1856 never found him

And i has taken me 35 yearsto get this far.
And along comes this Margret?
Maybe there were two ThomS Keoghsmarrying Mary Bennetts in Clonra

Heywood
You are a genius!
-
Kg,
Thank you.
One thing still puzzles me
Margaret born on twenty fourth nov and resistered on 29th as Margret
But baptised onthe 25th with name of Elliza? Then why not registered as Elliz
Who is the Margaret baptised in Banagher then?
-
I suppose it is one of those things you will never know. As she is Eliza in later life, it might be the registration is an error. Baptism was probably more important.
You would have to see the original re Margaret in Banagher. Have you seen that record?
-
No,
Only the one on family search.
I was puzzled as they had put it on my Thomas and Mary.
There were no others added.
Thank you both for all your help and your time. I am very grateful.
You are very kind .l appreciate it very much.
I took he grandchildren to Ireland some 15 Years ago and we had a train ride to Galway from Dublin and the train stopped at Birr and I wanted to get out but the grandchildren wanted to go on to Galway....
An opportunity missed.
I wondered about all the deaths in Lusmagh for first six months of 1847 but now read that the famine was hard there and all ages died not jut the old.
-
I am glad you feel easier about it now. I have looked for a Banagher baptism but can’t see one and there is a bit of a jump in the pages so no idea where that record would come from.
-
Thank you for looking.
I looked too but found nothing.
I think you and kg have solved it all.
Margret? Or E lliza.
My aunt told me there was an Elizabeth.
Funny how our old dead ones are so interesting..
Old Thomas Keogh prob born around 1780 or so left a will so must have been able to write.
He rented land from sir Robert lynch Blosse .
It was along the little Brosna river midway between Banagher and Birr
Sold just a while back. Now all new bungalows.
Traced where it was from griffifths valuations...maps/ nos etc.
I always liked jig saw puzzles!
Thanks again.
-
Just a ps.
I added a note to the Thomas and Mary Bennett on family search( where they had added the Margret from Macclesfied to my people ) with a long ex planation so hope they remove her.
And I see from a post on here today that susch a mistake re name change from registration and baptism can resutl in not being able to find birth certificate..
So there is an answer to these puzzles.
