Hi there
I'm trying to find out where my 6x Great Grandfather was born.
His name was George Miller. He was born around 1785 and married a Sarah Howe in 1816 in Heworth, County Durham. They had children in the 1820's and then they are shown in the 1841 census living in Jarrow. He is listed as a Quarry man.
I think it's a No next to whether born in county, but I'm not sure. Sarah underneath is more of a No and she was born in Allendale, Northumberland.
I haven't been able to find a burial so far, this would help with an accurate birth year.
I hope someone has a bit more luck in finding him.

Have you got Sarah in 1851 to see if she is described as a widow? That would help narrow down when George died.

Yes sorry she is shown as widowed in 1851,
She is listed as a Miner's widow living at 49, Temple Town, Westoe, South Shields.
Her Son, Timothy, is living next door at 48.
I've looked for a death record but haven't been able to find the right age/place.

I was just looking at a tree and they have his death as Mar 1841 but I don't think that can be right as
he is on the 1841 census and
the death registration for Mar 1841 was aged 14
his real death is elusive.

That's the wrong Sarah Howe as she was born in Allendale in 1795.
Could be the right George but not sure.
I looked on Durham records and there is a death in South Shields in 1841 for a George born in 1784. This could be the one. Don't know if anyone can access it or do you have to pay?

I think I have found his burial.
Ordered the death record of George Miller in 1841 in Co. Durham on Durham Records. He is listed as aged 57 at death in around September 1841. This would put his dob as 1783/4
He is buried in St Paul, Jarrow and is living in Hebburn. Still not sure where he was born but i guess it will probably be Co. Durham/Northumberland.

The burial I found is on Durham Records online, it isn't on Findmypast/Freebmd.
There is an Esther Miller born in 1802 in Newcastle. Maybe this is her :)

She has apparently signed, but we would need the parish register to compare the signatures.
A possible double baptism, 5 Oct 1823, Gateshead, Thomas Mark Carr and John Cornel Carr. Father a Cordwainer.
I'm not sure if this Esther is around in and after 1841, or if she is the Esther Carr died 1839 age 50.

I think I am in danger of getting carried away here!
Anyway, that is one Esther you could investigate perhaps.
I agree that it looks like George Miller is a not born county in 1841.

Esther Miller bap Newcastle 1802 did have a brother George, who was baptized 6 April 1800, Newcastle All Saints. Which is unfortunately too late for your George.

That Esther Miller marriage in 1822 was witnessed by Timothy Wilson.
And George and Sarah Miller had a son who they named Timothy Wilson. Baptized at Gateshead earlier the same year, on 12 May.

At least we seem to have linked George to an Esther Miller/Carr, which is something.

Something else to consider!
Have you seen the children of John Millar and Jane, nee Wilson?
There is a baptism of four of them on 23 January 1804 at Gateshead.
Henry, born 9 April 1790, 4th son
Timothy, born 6 January 1792, 5th son
William, born 9 February 1796, 6th son
Wilson, born 3 February 1798, 7th son

It says that father John is a Shoemaker, deceased. And in fact he was buried on that very same day at Gateshead, age 50. Died 21 January.

So John and Jane had three sons born before 1790. Can we find any?

No mothers names given in Gateshead then. Not on the BTs at least. And of course we can't be sure that is the same John Millar, since the info is so minimal
It doesn't say the are boys twins. They may have been of course, but one of them could have been older.
No Gateshead BT for 1787-8, but from the parish registers FamilySearch have indexed an Esther Millar baptized at Gateshead, 18 May 1788, father John

She would be a good match on age for the Esther Carr buried June 1839, age 51 (age 50 in the new GRO death index), if indeed that was the Esther Miller who married in 1822. Don't know for sure.
An Esther Wilson, daughter of Timothy, was baptized in Gateshead later in 1788 (is on the 1788-79 BT). Timothy likely had a son Timothy baptized there in 1786
Haven't found a marriage for John Millar and Jane Wilson.
Not everything is perfect here, but the right names are potentially there. Could Timothy Wilson senior have been a brother of Jane Millar? Either he or his son could have been Esther's marriage witness.
