Looking for descendants of Malcolm Provan who emigrated to Australia (Melbourne) om the sailing vessel 'Amoor' in 1857. Estimated journey 154 days He was born in Paisley ca 1834 to Robert and Janet Provan and is listed as a 'dyer'.

What is your connection to him?  Putting his name into Ancestry shows some possibilities but I don't have a Worldwide sub to view the entries

His father Robert Provan, born 1790, died 1870, worked in a silk factory in Paisley, Scotland is my great -great grandfather

Unfortunately the Scotlands People website is down for maintenance at the moment as I was going to check in case he returned to Scotland and died there

I see his younger brother Alexander named one of his sons Malcolm

He was my grandfather, he named one of his sons Malcolm too, he was my father

Probate record for Malcolm Provan died Sandhurst 27 April 1874 , engine driver, mentions two brothers Alexander and Sandy Provan and one sister Catherine Provan all residing in Paisley, Scotland. There is no mention of any wife or children.

Thanks all, it certainly sounds that this is my great, great uncle. He had a brother called Alexander and a sister Catherine.

Just found them in 1841 - all transcribed as surname Brown except Alexander.  Address is same as 1851.  Have notified a correction

The Letters of Adminstration of his estate in 1874 lists the property he had at the time:
Moneys deposited in the Savings Bank, Sandhurst: 154 pounds
Moneys deposited in the Commercial Bank, Sandhurst: 71 pounds, 17 shillings
Moneys found in deceased's possession: 2 pounds, 9 and 6 pence
An old silver watch, value 13 shillings and 6pence.

Thanks all,you've done a great job. I wonder what happened to the 229 pounds Malcom Provan left?? quite a lot of money in these days I guess.
Interestingly enough my mother had a small gold nugget which she had on a bracelet and which came from an 'uncle' who had been in the Australian gold rush. As is the way of it I did not ask which uncle when she was still alive, but it could have been Malcolm
I notice he died without wive or children so I think I will leave it here.
