Title: Baptism record.
Post by: patrish on Saturday 06 February 21 16:15 GMT (UK)
Hi, I have not posted on RC for several years now, but trying to break down some of my FH brick walls, as a lot more information is available now from when I first started. would be so grateful for any information that might help.  Thank you.

Trying to find a batism record, I can find no registrion record for my Gt Grandmother Harriet Stanley .

On her marriage to Samuel Hall in 1868 in St Thomas, parish of Stepney she is a minor with consent, gives her father as Thomas Thurston Stanley , Deceased.   She gives her POB in later census as born St. Georges in the East, Stepney.

What year was she born?  Have you got an age for her from later census (or previous?)

There's a Harriet Susan Stanley birth registration Dec 1853 St George Southwark

Mothers maiden name Eastman

But depends how minor she was in 1868.

One of the marriage witnesses was Eliza Stanley - that might help.

Oh Sorry can see I am a little rusty now.

1871 has her aged 23 b George East and 1881 has her as 30 born the same.

My other stumbling  block is  I think she may be illeg as I seem to have 3 generations all called Harriet Stanley or Thurston Stanley.  But I am trying to work back to see if I can verify the other generations.

Suggestion is Henrietta Harriet Stanley born Mar 1848 Stepney.

Maiden name for that one is Leithienllier.

There is a marriage of a Thomas Thurston Stanley in St George in the East in 2nd quarter of 1847.
A potential bride is Eliza Phoebe Tyler.

There is a birth in St George in the East in 1849 of an Eliza Harriet Stanley, mother’s maiden surname Tyler.

May be worth following up?

Edit: see next post

No, forget that one. She married Thomas O’Farrell in 1871.

What was Thomas’s occupation on Harriet's marriage cert?

Thank you, I think I had better post what I do now about the  previous  generations to save  duplicate information.   This is what I have.

Charles Thurston Stanley b 1750 married Elizabeth Fleetwood b 1748   1 son Thomas b 1781 who married Harriet Smith baptised June 1791 , she was a foundling (from  a relatives search) she died aged 46 in 1838 and her remarried to Lydia Travwicks  I have that information.

Thomas and Harriet Smith had 3 children  Harriet b c 1821, Thomas b 1824 and Caroline b 1834. Dont know if there were any more.

Thomas married Elza Pheobe Tyler, thats the famil you found Jen  they had 5 children one being Eliza Harriet who intially I thought my me  2x gt granmother but she is not, but was born almost the same time as mine.

It would seem that Harriet b c1821 had a daughter also Harriet my 1 x gt granmother'

On the marriage in 1868 one of the witnesses is Thomas Tyler and Eliza Stanley so I am sure that this is her brother Thomas's daughter Eliza

Just one point - on her marriage she gives her father as Thomas Stanley. No Thurston mentioned.

Yes, thats what make this even more difficult

I have a rough family tree,  I think I need to persue this marriage before going any further.

Thomas Thurston Stanley b 1781  married Harriet Smith (the foundling) b 1791  the first conclusive child is Thomas Thurston Stanley

I have a copy of baptims records for 3 children all born to Thomas Thurston Stanley and Harriet , with all 3 dates of birth but only batism date for Thomas. All in St Georges in the East.

Thomas born 24th July 1823. baptised  Jan 7th 1832

Elizabeth born 13th Nov 1827

Caroline born 31st Dec 1830

I am convinced that there is a connection between Harriet Stanly b c 1850 and Thomas the son b 1823 because of his marriage and children and the witnesses on Harriets marriage to Samuel Hall.

On the marriage in 1868 one of the witnesses is Thomas Tyler and Eliza Stanley so I am sure that this is her brother Thomas's daughter Eliza

Image of 1868 marriage on FamilySearch (a very good one!)

Eliza Stanley the witness signed her name.

1871 marriage at same church, Eliza Harriet Stanley, father Thomas Thurston Stanley.
Eliza marked. Groom signed

Whilst that is not proof they aren't the same person, it may cast a bit of doubt?

Thomas Thurston Stanley wasn’t deceased in 1868. He can be found on several subsequent censuses.

Eliza (Harriet) and her father Thomas (Thurston) Stanley in Ratcliff in 1861. Thomas a Corn Porter.
piece 284 folio 129 page 26

Perhaps a better image again on FS than on ancestry!

Do we have those Stanleys in 1851? :-\
Coincidentally, living in the same house in 1861 are two Harriets. Surname Robinson.
One Harriet is forty something, and the other, her daughter, is eleven. Both born St Geo East.
Head is Willm Robinson, 32, Chair Maker.
Not sure if they are about in 1851 either?

I have the actual copy of marriage cert in 1868 thank you.    Neither of those links works, for me as I am not a member of family search

So I cant view the other marriage in 1871 of Eliza Harriet either.

This is who I have been thinking was my Harriet aged 11 with her mother Harriet aged 40 Living under the name of Robinson  ???

As far as I know no one has found that family in 1851, I do not have subs to Ancestry or FindMyPast so I cannot look.

Hi
Sorry about that. You have to be registered now, sadly. Though still free.

Harriet Thuston Stanley baptized 26 July 1816, St Botolph Aldgate.
Has a date of birth, 21 July 1812 or 1813? Can't be sure about that.
Father Thomas Thuston Stanley a Waterman. Mother Harriet.

Ancestry have transcribed Harriet Robinson's age as 47 in 1861. They might be right!
I guess she could be Thomas's sister. Is there no sign of a marriage?
John

You just need to sign up. It only takes a minute or so.
Then you can view the links.
Many of us are signed up to it. There are no snags to it.

I have a copy of the 1841 census, which has Thomas Stanley (no Thurston) aged 60 a  Waterman  with Lydia (his second wife)  (Travwick) age 40, Harriet aged 30 so born c 1811 Caroline 8, Mary 5 , Caroline Travwick 17, John  Travwick 13  and  Henry Stanley 50, Margaret 60 Mary 25.

All living Chapman Place. which is where my Harriet lived for all her life with Samuel Hall

Thurston seems to appear and disappear at random  ???
