Title: Cause of Death for William Alexander Ramsay Jeffrey
Post by: codym2003 on Wednesday 17 February 21 18:59 GMT (UK)
Hi there
Recently discovered that my great-great grandmother Georgina Boyle had an older (half?) brother who I noticed died pretty young (age 22) and I was curious as to why. I bought his death certificate from 1919 and my main theory was that he had died due to injuries from WW1 but the handwriting for the Cause of Death section is really hard to understand.

I think the first few words may be 'Crushed by elevator' but I'm not entirely sure.

Any help at all would be appreciated :)

Looks like "crushed by elevator - head injuries chiefly"

Dundee Courier 25 July 1919

Distressing Elevator Mishap

Demobilised only a few weeks ago after
spending four years on active service in
France, William Alexander Ramsay Jeffrey
(22), oiler, 18 Kidd Street, was killed as the
result of an elevator accident.
He was in the employment of Hillbank
Linen Works, and in the afternoon he
climbed the gate of the lift to attract the
attention of the attendant.  It is surmised
that he inadvertently touched the driving
rope setting the elevator in motion and
his head was crushed between the lift and
the gate.  The unfortunate man was extri-
cated in a semi-conscious condition, and was
so badly injured that he died before he
could be conveyed to the Royal Infirmary.
