Hello all,
I am trying to find out where & when Joseph Hoar married Martha, and her maiden surname.
According to census records, Martha was born in Woodside/Caddington, Bedfordshire around 1776, so I imagine the marriage would've taken place close to her hometown, if that was the custom?
I don't know where Joseph was born, around 1765, but not in Bedfordshire according to the only census he's on in 1841 in Caddington before he died in 1845.
I think their oldest child was Martha b. 1794, and if so, would have married before this.
Any guidance on where to look, would be much appreciated.

Thank you Rosie,
I had seen the name Bradwin in a family tree, but without any sources, so I didn't take it down.
Much appreciated. Does it say where they married?

Thank you John, much appreciated!
What's 'surenty' in the marriage licence? Would that be Martha's father vouching for her or similar?

For a licence one or more people can stand surety for a couple who are marrying in a parish where banns are not read. Usually it is a person of good standing in the village. This licence transcript does not specifically state that Martha is the daughter of John, however it is likely.
I've not found a baptism for Martha, daughter of John Bradwin in Bedfordshire around 1771. I'm not sure who her mother may be. There is a burial at Caddington of John Bradwin of Woodside, gardener on 14 Nov 1832 aged 88. Beds Archives have a copy of his will ref ABP/W 1833/5 it might be good to get them to provide details. There is prior burial at Caddington on 25 Mar 1793 of Elizabeth, wife of John Bradwin.

Thanks so much for your information and suggestions John, much appreciated.
When I get a chance to follow up, I'll post if I find something out.
