Good day,
I am looking for Elizabeth Langmaid and William Hall who married on 27 July 1840 in St Marys, Scilly, Cornwall. Elizabeth was born 1819 in Fowey, William's birthplace and date are unknown as yet, but still looking. I am guessing William was close to Elizabeth's age on the marriage doc it only say's they are both of full age and that he is a stone mason.
I am still looking for the whereabouts of this pair after their marriage. Did they stay on the islands or did they go elsewhere? I can't seem to locate where they ended up and whether or not they had children? I don't see then in the 1841 or following censuses. There seems to be a naval or military base on the island - perhaps William was part of the navy or military? Lots of unanswered questions I am attempting to answer. Any help with them will be appreciated.

Thx Rosie,
Portsea is quite possible since it is a naval town and Elizabeth's mother Susanna and older brother Samuel lived there during the 1840s. Elizabeth's father was a mariner who I think died in the mid-1830s. Samuel married in Portsea during 1846. I suppose medway is possible as well. William as a stonemason was likely quite mobile for work.

This is clutching at straws but I wonder if this could be young Charles in 1861 with Hall grandparents in Madron, Cornwall

Have a look at this family in 1841 as I think William & Elizabeth are living with Williams parents. They are not listed together . I assume it is the same family as the 1861 I listed for Margaret read Peggy

Just to add the 1841 census that I posted has William senior also with occupation Mason, William juniors marriage has his father as William occupation Mason.
-
The marriage BANNS for William Hall and Elizabeth Langmaid / Langman show that William residence is Madron, and her residence is Fowey.
The marriage RECORD has residence for both bride and groom as St Marys. Her father is John a mariner. His father is William - a mason.
Likely that this is William Hall's baptism

What is it that you are not sure about. How do you link your tree to this couple.
-
Hi Rosie and Neale,
Thx so very much for your responses, it is wonderful. I agree with most of the information youboth have provided. I do believe that William was from Madron and Elizabeth from Fowey Cornwall. You are correct about Elizabeth's siblings Neale, my direct ancestor that came to Canada is Samuel Langmaid.Susanna, Elizabeth's mother died in1850 in Portsea. Her father John Lanngmaid was a mariner who I think died at sea just before the last daughter Susanna was born about 1836, meaning it would be unlikely he would have attended Elisabeth and William's marriage. I still am looking for John's birth and death. I believe both Susanna and John were minors when they married.
I have the civil marriage document for Elizabeth and William, but don't have the banns document for them. Is this document on Ancestry? I will need to get a copy of William's bapt document as well :-)
Cheers for now, JDC

JDC, all the records I found were on this site.

When searching for Langmaid, you need to use the wild card function, as the spelling varies so much.

I was also using Cornwall-opc :)

All the information seems to be fitting together nicely. Thank you both for the help so far.

Good to hear, JDC.
Did you find the baptism for John Langmaid ? - there was one there I thought was probable.
-
Hi Neale,
No I haven't for either Elizabeth's brother or father John. I have seen possibilities for both. I am still looking into them.
Btw Neale, Elizabeth had 2 sisters named Susanna. The first Susanna was bapt 17 Feb 1822 in Fowey, so I am assuming for the moment she was born sometime in 1820/1 in that area and she died/was buried abt 6 Mar 1832 in Fowey. I am assuming too that John, the father, was alive in 1835 and died prior to the 1841 census since I cannot find him included anywhere. I suppose he could have taken off somewhere, ie North America or Australia?
Cheers, JDC
