Margaret Watterson died September 22, 2011 in Philadelphia. I think she is the daughter of Adam Watterson and Susan Leslie and she was born in 1915.
Hoping to prove this.
Thanks for any help

Thank you aghadowey. Odds are very, very high that Margaret who died in 2011 is the exact same person as the one born to Adam and Susan, with the date of birth being the same. I couldn't find her in 1930 and 1940 but you may have. I wonder what became of her sisters found on the 1920.
And thank you *Sandra* very much for the article on Adam Waterson. What a sad event. He was living with his nephew Henry James Waterson in 1940 in Philadelphia.
Peggy
Oh, I see a new posting by you *Sandra*. You are marvellous. This posting actually solidifies that the three daughters all lived, and that all are alive in 1992. And that Margaret does indeed belong to the same family and that she was unmarried in 1992 as she was in 2011. Adam's sister Martha married a McAleese so Lavinia may have married a relative. Also, Lavinia is a name in the family - Adam's brother also named a daughter Lavinia. I was puzzled by the name Evine on the 1920 census but I now see that it was short for Lavinia. And Elizabeth married a Parker. Lots of info in this 1992 article.
Thank you.

Wow, Sandra. You are finding stuff so fast, I can hardly keep up. I think I am seeing something here regarding Lavinia. I am thinking she was born Jan 1, 1920 (or 1919) to Adam Watterson and Susan Leslie. I say 1919 as she is on the Jan 1, 1920 census with Adam age 11 months. We know Susan died between 1920 and 1930. Lavinia was then raised or adopted by her aunt Martha McAleese, then later by Martha's daughter Helen McAleese who was now married to John M. Koch. Lavinia is on the 1930 census with Helen and John Koch as sister-in-law to John and she is age 10. I have now clued in that this must be Adam's daughter Lavinia. So when Lavinia died in 1992, I presumed she had married a McAleese but that may not be the case. She may never have married.
As for the birth of John McAleese in 1908, I think that is a different John McAleese than the one born to Martha Watterson. John born 1908 seems to have mother Mary Whalen or McClure - records are confusing. His father born Delaware and mother born PA. Our John McAleese should be born abt 1904 as he is 5 on the 1910 census with both parents born Ireland.
Now for Martha's death certificate. I had found that before and puzzled about it. Date of death is correct but age is wrong and mother is wrong. All the other records that we have found confirm that Martha was born Sept 12, 1868 to James Watterson and MARGARET Hurl with brother Adam born Apr 10, 1878. James Watterson had married Margaret Hurl whereas his brother Joseph had married Elizabeth Hurl, who is NOT a sister to Margaret. Henry James is a son to Martha's brother William James Watterson.
Thanks again *Sandra*
Oh, I see your new info on John McAleese born Aug 5, 1903, died 1973. He may be our man!
-
I didn't realise straight away that Lavina McAleese and Lavina/Evina Watterson were the same but that 1930 census pointed us that way.
Regarding the death certificate of Martha McAleese - we always say, information is only as good as the informants knowledge. Sometimes birth dates and ages can vary, even parents names.
John J McAleese was the informant which suggested to it being the correct person but with the wrong mother named. Your not convinced this is Martha whose parents should be Joseph and Margaret rather than Elizabeth ?

I am absolutely positive that Martha is a daughter to James Watterson and Margaret Hurl. I have her baptism as well as her brothers Adam and William James, and her nephew Henry James, son to William James.
Now, Martha also had a brother Benjamin born 1870 so could well be him and his wife in 1895, with Benjamin being age 23. This would be a different Benjamin who was a son to Elizabeth Watterson of Co. Tyrone that you have sent the link for.
I need to find that emigration record to see info on Mrs. Steal on Anaber Street (could it be Amber St?). Benjamin did have an older sister Mary Jane born 1860. Maybe it is her.
Peggy
-
Yes, I would say that Mrs. Steal/Steele would be Benjamin's sister Mary Jane who emigrated 1876 as per the 1900 census. Mary Jane was born Apr 1860 and the census says Apr 1861. Close.
You have found another sibling!

Thank you for the death info on Elizabeth Hurl. Mary Jane Steele nee Watterson had parents James Watterson and Margaret Hurl and Margaret's parents were John Hurl and Nancy Quigley which I think is probably the same person as Nancy Quilly at Elizabeth's death, which confirms her as an aunt to Mary Jane. Elizabeth who was returning to 2095 Nostrand in 1927 had dob Mar 18, 1896. Birth registered under Fanny. On one record, I saw that Elizabeth was returning to that address to her cousin Miss Mary Watterson but I haven't figured out who Mary is nor did I find either Elizabeth or Mary at that address at any time. Just now reviewing another post of mine, I had found the marriage of Mary L. Watterson May 17, 1932 to Francis M. Doran. I wonder if that would be her cousin but I don't have the birth of Mary L. or her parents. If Mary L. turns out to be a cousin to Elizabeth, her father must be either Robert or John.
I did not find Isaac or Stewart Watterson in USA, nor I have found Joseph's aunt Anne Angus, despite much looking.
I did not realize Woods was on findagrave. Could be very helpful to me. Looking at the headstone erected by William R. Watterson, I was confused at first but read it more carefully. William Robert was the son of William James Watterson and Margaret Jane Davis and he erected the stone to his parents. And Stephen and Annie were William Robert's children which I didn't have as yet.
I have not found Benjamin Watterson or his wife Martha after their emigration in 1895. Maybe he didn't stay, only visiting. I didn't find Benjamin's marriage to Martha either which I presume was before emigration.
Thanks again for all your wonderful help.
Peggy

There are a number of Elizabeth with a birth date 18 March 1896 but so far nothing showing under a married name in New York.
Isaac and Stewart Watterson do not seem to have immigrated to the USA, might be better to ask about them in Ireland.
Mary Watterson who married Francis Doran was born New York according to the 1940 census and Pennsylvania according to the 1930 and 1920 census. Her mother was Nora (McNamara) Hendry.

Hi Sandra and all,
After much research and after seeing the private tree that Sandra found, I have Willam Hurl and Mary Bell on my tree. Their children Mary Jane Weston, Andrew John, Thomas and George were all in Ontario in 1921. Their son Hugh died in Winnipeg in 1990 and I have Hugh's obit which mentions David Weston and his daughter Jean Weston born 1920. Hugh's wife was Mary Evelyn Ward born in England, they married in England and Mary died Oct 1, 1986 in Winnipeg, and Mary's sister was Hilda Gladys Ward who married Frank Russell Gray. Hilda died Feb 23, 1985 and she had a daughter Barbara.
Would you have an obit for Andrew John Hurl who died Apr 22, 1947 in York Co., Ontario, probably Toronto.
Thank you
