Hi there.
i was wondering if anyone can help me.
i can't seem to find the birth record for a relative.
it's for a HENRY GILLETT 1685-1737 (according to linked family trees from other users)
i found a match for a Henry & Hester having a baby Henry but that was in London which is 80 miles away from where i'm searching seems a fair distance for late 1600's
many thanks in advance

Hello
What is the first definitely true fact that you know about Henry? How did you get back to him?
Bev
-
traced him back through records. me and my dad started tracing back family tree a few years back and i have got stuck. all the gillett's seem to add up same village, same names sons naming their kids after their dad's that sort of thing.
i think i'm doing it correctly

You aren't going to find a birth record - but you might be lucky enough to find a baptism record?
But you need to know in which denomination/faith and in which church.

Welcome to RootsChat.
What's the name of the parish you were searching which is 80 miles from London? Do registers for that parish and nearby parishes survive for the decade Henry was born? Are there any gaps? Are all entries legible? What evidence do you have that Henry was born in or around 1685?
What was Henry's occupation? Do you know names of any of his brothers or sisters?
I have a Gillett/Gillat connection in 1700's but in Lancashire. He was Catholic, born before local R.C. chaplains began keeping registers so there's no record of his baptism, nor the baptism of his wife, my 5xGGM.

Yeah the place is moreton in marsh gloucestershire.

Bev
That's great Bev ...so we now know that is Henry aged 20 marrying Sarah - BUT - it doesn't look like Henry was born Moreton in Marsh does it - because I put in Henry Gillett 1670-1720 Moreton in Marsh - and nothing before 1707 for births in Moreton in Marsh - so - probably Sarah Miles was the Moreton born and they married in her Parish - Henry could have been born anywhere ???
-
The church in Moreton in Marsh is St David; parish records start in 1643.
There don't appear to be any other churches mentioned in the 1868 National Gazetter.
"The town, which consists of one long street, forming part of the road from London to Worcester", so coach travel was a possibility.
