Are you looking for living persons? If so - we can’t help
Have you checked the Surname Interests Board?

Thank you, I do appreciate that this is how the system works.

Was this Donald McLean the son of Donald McLean and Ann Grant

Thank you Rosie, that is most helpful. I am now looking at the Hutcheson line, which also are directly related to the Mcleans. I am looking for the family of Ann Fraser and William Hutcheson who lived in Inverness-shire. First child was Hugh Fraser Hutcheson born 1889 in Urquhart. In 1898 I think they had another son called Alistair. This may be shown wrongly, as I cannot find an Alistair Hutcheson or Hutchison born to Ann & William. I fully appreciate that errors are sometimes made on census records. Thank you again.
-
Im assuming you have them on the 1901 census Artafallie Knockbain
William Hutcheson age 42born Killtarlity grocer and draper
Ann Hutcheson age 35 born Killtarlity
Hugh Fraser Hutcheson age 11 born Urquhart
Alister Hutcheson age 3 born Inverness
John Hutcheson age 1 born Killmorak
William Hutcheson age 1 month born Knockbain
Maybe look at this birth on Scotlands People for a Alexander Hutcheson 1897 Urquhart Inverness

1901 Census, Knockbain: William Hutcheson, 48; Ann, 35; Hugh Fraser, 11; Alister, 3; John, 1. William and Ann born Kiltarlity, Hugh and Alister Glenurquhart, John in Kilmorack. View the original at Scotland's People to check.
Remember that Alastair/Alister could have been registered as Alexander.
Edit: I see my post crossed with Rosie's one saying the same thing.

Can anyone help me with the 1881 Census
Looking for the family of Alexander & Margaret Fraser. One of their siblings was Christina born 1871 in Kiltarlity or Killearnan. Her father was a farmer. If I had any of the other birth dates I could work it out in SP.

A sibling is a brother or sister.
Are you looking for brothers and sisters of Alexander and/or Margaret or siblings of Christina, daughter of Alexander Fraser, farmer, and Margaret his wife, or for Christina, daughter of Alexander Hutcheson, farmer, and Margaret Fraser his wife?
And is this the same Christina, daughter of Alexander and Margaret, born 1874 in Linnie as mentioned in your second post above? If so, where did the two different birth dates come from?

From the IGI these look like the family of Alexander Fraser and his wife Margaret Fraser (i.e. Fraser was both her maiden and her married name), probably the couple married in Kiltarlity on 10 February 1865.
Catherine, born 21 January 1866
James, born 3 August 1867
William, born 7 July 1869
Christina, born 25 October 1871
Alexander, born 11 February 1874
which is when the IGI stops so younger children are not listed.
But beware! There are two other couples with the same names, one married on 27 December 1860 in Inverness and the other on 14 October 1864 in Urquhart, Moray, whose families would overlap.

Many thanks, I feel sure this is the correct family. I had no details of the family of Christina Fraser who married Donald Maclean on 28.01.1904 in Killearnan Parish. Her parents names are shown on the marriage certificate, but not their birth dates. Just needed a legitimate reference point to start from. Thank you again for your help and patience.

Fine, but you need to be sure you have the correct couple, as there are three couples with the same names at about the same time.
If you have not already done so, you need to find your Donald and Christina in the 1911 census and check her age and parish of birth to make sure you have the correct one.
-
I will do that now. In 1911 she was married to Donald Maclean, and they have a 3 year old daughter.
-
Struggled to find them in the 1911 census. Got a copy of their marriage certificate which shows they were married 28.01.1904, in the parish of Killearnan. He was 32 and Christina was 30. Their child was born in Inverness 1908.
-
This census 1911 might be worth looking at ref./073/4/7 Knockbain Ross Cromarty
Donald McLean age 39
Christina McLean age 37
Donald McLean age 7
Alexander McLean age 5
Maggie Ann McLean age 3
Rosie
-
This looks correct, just checking with my relative. Thank you.
-
If Christina was 30 on 28 January 1904, she must have been born between 29 January 1873 and 28 January 1804.
If she was 37 in the 1911 census, she was born between 3 April 1873 and 2 April 1874.
So either she gave a wrong age on her marriage and census, or she isn't the one born in 1871.
Where does the 1911 census say she was born?
-
I am waiting for a reply, to give some clarity. The marriage certificate of 28.01.1904 shows Donald aged 32 and Christina 30, residing in Linnie, South West of Tore, in the County of Ross.

The 1911 information from Rosie is 100% correct. This should help ??

Yes, but it's not complete.
Rosie's information is from the index to the 1911 census at SP.
You need to view the full original document to see all the information that was included in the census, for example where they were all born.
-
Excellent thought, will do. Thank you.
-
Not easy to read the SP 1911 census. It states they have been married 7 years.
