I am struggling to find any details regarding the death of Thomas Adams (bn 1828) from Oswestry.
I know he married Sarah Peters (previously Ward) in 1875 and his youngest child (Tom) was born on 27th December 1881 - both of which were in Oswestry.
He shows on the 1881 Census as living in Oswestry so assume he passed away between April 1881 and April 1891 in that area.
I cannot find any details regarding death can anyone offer any suggestions as to where I should be looking please?

Numerous online trees give his death as 1888 in Montgomeryshire.
-
Thank you for your reply nanny jan, I must be doing something wrong as I can't find him :-[

From FreeBMD Deaths:
ADAMS Thomas age 60 Llanfyllin 11b 155
-
Burial
Thomas Adams age 60
5th June 1888
Llanfechain, Montgomeryshire
abode village
-
Thank you Nanny jan and Comberton for your replies, I did find that (after nanny jans prompt) but wasn't sure it was the right Thomas Adams as Llanfyllin sounded a distance from Oswestry.
I guess the answer is to order the death certificate?

There is only one Thomas Adams of that age in Montgomeryshire in 1881
8 Broad Street, Middle Pool, Forden, Montgomeryshire
Thomas Adams Head Widower 52 1829 Confectioner Bridgenorth, Shropshire
Elizabeth Pritchard Sister in law single 43 1838 Shrewsbury, Shropshire
Richard Powell Boarder single 45 1836 Accountant Welshpool, Montgomeryshire
Marion B Taylor Visitor single 17 Welshpool, Montgomeryshire
Can anyone find him in 1891 to eliminate him?
-
I suspect the online trees have possibly copied from each other; have you found Sarah on 1891 census? I would check where Sarah and children are in 1891 before ordering a death certificate.
Was your Thomas a confectioner?

1891

another child Annie 1885
Thomas was a painter and glazier in 1881
-
The missing (deceased) Thomas Adams was a painter/glazier, his children were Amelia, Nellie, Jannie & Tom.
The Confectioner was his son Tom (bn 1881)
I have looked closer at the Montgomeryshire Thomas and am not sure it is the same family. That Thomas shows his father as David whereas 'my' Thomas has the father 'Thomas'. All very confusing :)

Llanfyllin is 12 mile walk (14 mile drive) from Oswestry - I don't think thats that far
Llanfechain is a few miles away on the Oswestry side - under 10 miles
-
None of the online trees I looked at gave a date or address for his death so it could be that they just found a name and age that fitted. :-\

Could this be Sarah in 1891?
10 Cripplegate Oswestry
Sarah Adams wid 50
Nellie Adams dour 14
John Adams son 11
Tom Adams son 9
Annie Adams dour 6
David Adams son 3
Mary G Peters granddaughter 4 could this be the daughter of Oswald Peters who is presumably Sarah’s son from her previous marriage? Or did she have other children from her first marriage?
All born Oswestry
-
That is definitely the correct Adams family.
I am just surprised that I cannot find Thomas Adams being buried in Oswestry, where he was born, married, and all his children were baptised.
I may be wrong, but I am not sure he is the Thomas Adams that died in Montgomeryshire.

Just a thought - if he had something infectious could he have gone into an isolation hospital - if there was one in Llanfyllin that may explain it

Burial
Thomas Adams age 60
5th June 1888
Llanfechain, Montgomeryshire
abode village
In the 1911 census there is also a son, David, aged 23, born Llanfechain
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X726-CC9
He is also on the 1891 census aged 3 born Llanfechain.
Birth David Adams, 2nd q 1888, Llanfyllin 11b 119, mmn Ward
Baptism, 22 April, 1888, David Adams, son of Thomas & Sarah Adams, of Village. Father's occupation, painter.
So it seems to me that the Llanfechain burial is the right one and that Thomas died very shortly after David was born.

If he was ill, he would have gone to one of the Workhouse hospitals. The Oswestry one was at Morda (to the south of Oswestry) and the nearest Montgomeryshire one was at Forden. (close to Welshpool).

Well, I think that is it solved!
I missed the fact that his son David was born in Llanfyllin and not Oswestry so am happy to pursue that connection for where Thomas died.
Thank you all so much for you kind efforts (I am so pleased I found this forum!) :)
I have just ordered the Death Certificate so will update this post on its arrival.

Baptism, 22 April, 1888, David Adams, son of Thomas & Sarah Adams, of Village. Father's occupation, painter.
I omitted to say in my previous posting that this was from the Llanfechain Parish records.

Thank you for that JenB :)

As promised here is the update regarding Thomas Adams:
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The Thomas Adams who died from pneumonia on 2nd June 1888 in the village of Llanfechain is the missing Great Great Grandfather from our tree.
I guess because Oswestry is classed as in England and that Thomas died in the village of Llanfechain just a few miles away in Wales, I just couldn't find him.
I am so grateful for all your help in solving this.

I did not contribute to this post but it's fantastic when a result is found. Another success for Rootschat.
