Hi guys,
Not much doing today as it's so hot....
So I was wondering who will be your first person to look up on the 1921 census when released in the new year and maybe why ? Will it help you break through a research brick wall that has been a stumbling block for the last ten years or even more ??
Mine will be two Hunt sisters Emma & Elizabeth Ann born 1878 & 1881, both orphaned and went into the Muller homes , last seen on 1911 census in and around Surrey working in service. Would love to know where they went onto.
Look forward to reading yours...........
Stay safe.

Have you contacted the mullerhomes I did and got lots of info including certificates where my people went they don't charge much for me it was very worth while

My great gran in St Helen Auckland, Co Durham would be my first port of call where she gives "Islington, London" as her birthplace, but I may save that and instead firstly see my 7 year old grandfather at East Street, Rochford, Essex, and his paternal gran in Letheringham, Suffolk.

Hi Sandiep,
Yes I did, money well spent, but in 1921 they will be their early 40's.
I have one of their death certificates but interested as to where they were in 1921 , the other orphan either married or passed away by 1939.
Thanks again.

My maternal grandparents. I thought I would have to look them up separately as they married on 16th April 1921, but have just realised that the census was taken in June that year, not late March or first week in April as most 19th century censuses were. So they would be newly-weds. I have their marriage cert so I know their residences before marriage, but interested to know where they set up home.

I shall be looking for my maternal great grandfather's mistress. He left his wife and set up home with her.
She was known as Florence Emily Lloyd but went by the name of Emily. She appears as Emily England on great grandfather's death certificate when he died in 1920. I am hoping I will get a more precise place of birth.
They never married even though they could have after his wife died in 1918.

That's reminded me - an early look will be the older sister of the same grandfather. She was divorced by her husband soon after the 1911 census, but did not marry the man named as co-respondent until shortly after her former husband died in 1933. Maintenance would have been cut off if she had married earlier, but obviously stopped when he died. I would be interested to see whether all the children were with her and her lover.

First on my list will be my oh-so-elusive Paternal Grandfather William James Wilson (1860 - 1937).
I suspect that nothing will have changed since the 1911 Census; which was a great disappointment…
However, on the 1921 Census they had to give their age in years and months, and that might help to pin him down to a definite birth date!

This is assuming that no porkies were told about their ages ::)

Let’s stay positive Girl Guide!
At least until proved otherwise… ;D ;)

I pretty much know where my grandparents and great-grandparents were in 1921.
So I'm in no rush to fork out for the 1921 census!

My mother. Born 1908 she went into service at some time, possibly bit too young at 13 but her parents were pretty keen to get rid of their kids asap - second eldest daughter was 'given' to grandmother's sister when she couldn't have kids or at least conceive but was then sent back when she did!. There was the photograph of a large local house in her effects when she died and it must have meant something important to her, it was badly damaged by fire post WW2 and then demolished in 1951. Unfortunately all its estate records including staff records were destroyed in the fire. If she's still at home then I'll check her two elder sisters who also went into service but as she wasn't particularly close to them I'm kind of uncertain why she have the photo of the house if one or both of them were there.

I'd like to be able to verify where my parents and grandparents were in 1921. Gut feeling is Halifax, but at some stage my grandparents moved to Cheshire - when? AND I'm nosey :-[
-
It’ll be the first census my parents will appear on and although I know where they’ll be it’ll be interesting to see them.
-
I know where my mother and her family were in 1921 - the same house I was brought up in! I think it will be most useful in my local history research - I often find myself wondering what happened in the gap between 1911 and 1939.
-
First stop for me will be my Grandad and his family. Hoping to pin down who his step mother was and where she was from.
By 1921 I will (should ;D) be able to see all four of my grandparents.
Great to have something to look forward to.
Tony.

Hi guys,
Thank you all so much for all your interesting contributions.
As Anthonymark says it's great to have something to look forward too !!
Stay safe !!

My Mum and Dad of course, but also my father's only known full first cousin on his father's side. I thought she was an only child because the only one we visited, but the 1939 gave us a full sister, and a contact made on her father's side found that there maybe up to four more! All in the same sub-district, but this is the Welsh borders and the usual superabundant Welsh surnames. I'm a patient man.

Got a few but one of the first will be my husband’s great grandfather, one William Williams ;D
Born somewhere in Caernarvonshire, north west Wales, first seen in Pontypridd (south east Wales) in 1909 when marrying his first wife - father listed as William, deceased, farmer. Married again in 1921 after his first wife died, father left blank this time. Age on marriages, 1911 census, 1939 register and death varies around 4 years, so with the name and vague birthplace, it’s the proverbial needle in a haystack. Hoping the 1921 will help as it’s probably the last chance.

Saw this thread yesterday and remembered my grandmother's Uncle who I couldn't locate between 1901 and 1939. He's the only member of my family that was still in the UK. When I first started my research I had left him on hold until the 1921 census was due. Thinking about him again now I had a look again and sure enough found him - in Canada of all places. (Not sure why I didn't find him years ago, maybe other new records have come on-line since my original research.) He met his English wife over there and seemed to hop between countries for a few years - he's in Canada during their 1921 census so I wouldn't have found him in the UK.
Of course, now having his wife's maiden name and some family she's not straight forward at all. Another mystery that needs untaggling. :D
Anyway, thanks for the reminder!

Think I’ll be looking to see where my father was in 1921… his early life is a bit of a mystery… his father died when he was 7 years old (1915) and he went into a home of sorts but never been able to establish where exactly…
My maternal grandfather is another one I’d like to find to check up on too and my grandmothers family…
Good hunting everyone and let’s hope our expectations on what we’ll find prove helpful!

First will be my dad. He was living with his mother and grandmother, but I want to see if his step brother had joined the family by then. I think he probably had but there’s no other way of knowing.
Second will be Edith, who would have been in her early 20s at the time, having already been bereaved of her oldest child. She’d go on to give birth to, and lose, many more children without ever marrying. I want to see who she was living with in 1921, as a clue to the possible father of her children.

reply 10surely 1921 will be free to view if on a site

I think 2 of my great grandmas brothers and one of here nieces. One brother I can't find his death, the other brother out of interest as to when they moved to Somerset and the niece as to confirm her marriage and her name change.

As I understand it initially the 1921 will be charged per view in addition to a regular subscription. FindMyPast did similar with the 1939 register when that was first released before later including it with regular memberships.
Standing by to be corrected. ;D

FindMyPast also initially charged for the 1911 census; PPV.

I want to see what my great grandfather gave as his birthplace. When I was growing up I was told it was Cregneash, Isle of Man but I've never seen any mention of it in records. Maybe he just lived in cottages like the ones preserved at Cregneash. When he was baptised the family were at Bradda near Port Erin and his merchant seaman crew records say Castletown. He was born before civil registration started on the island.

It would be my great grandad on my mother’s side, I can’t find him on 1911 census, he was a very dodgy character according to my Nan and moved out of the family home when she was a child. He died in 1923, I’m hoping he’ll show on 1921 it might give me a clue on what he was up to.

I’m keen to find my great uncle. He was a police constable in Durham, married a Durham girl in 1914, had twin daughters born in 1915, and fought in WW1 rising to be a sergeant in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He and his family should be on the 1921 census and he will probably indicate that he was born in Ireland.
Looking forward to it :D

My maternal grandparents and then my maternal 2nd great-grandmother... very interested in my grandparents' occupations. They would have been about 20, but I know neither were able to go beyond high school. I know my grandmother was a seamstress, so curious to see if she was working as such in June 1921.
