Request look up for the marriage of Daniel Cox born about 1803 in Codrington to Hannah born about 1802 in Cold Ashton. In 1851 they were living in Marshfield with their family all born Marshfield - Francis born about 1836 , Daniel born about 1838 and William born about 1841.
Probable marriage in Cold Ashton before 1836.
Marriage may have been before 1826 - see my post below
Thanks Dave

Baby steps....
look at the 1841 census first.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7MQ-M3J
then look for the youngest birth registrations to get a maiden name for Hannah.

OK. 1841 census shows a number of children for Daniel and Hannah the oldest being Sarah Ann, born about 1826 so the marriage would usually be earlier than that date.
When looking for the registration of the youngest, William (shown as female in 1841), there are a number of registrations. However, as mothers' maiden names do not appear before Sep qtr 1911 I fail to see how this can help.

Thank you Capetown very informative. Coincidentely I am currently looking at the Cainey or Keyner family who came from Wiltshire and moved to Cold Ashton. Project for another day will be to see if there is a link with them and Hannah Cainey.
Do you happen to have a year for Daniel and Hannah's marriage?

Just to help you in the future, the GRO now has mothers maiden names from 1837 via the link Pauline gave you in reply 1, also ages at death. It is free, you just have to register.
-
I did put the marriage in previous reply, however this is the details
Daniel COX (Widower) of this Parish, and Hannah CAINEY of this Parish
were married by Banns 1st September 1833 (twenty three is written, by the marriage above is 1833)
Daniel COX - and Hannah - both mark
witnesses: looks like William ..... ?uiney (with and x) Jane HARDING and M Jones
will have another look.

OK thanks, must have missed it although I copied the day and month. Thanks for heads up on GRO, not possible when I was transcribing for them. I tried the link but it came up as page not available.

Have you tried the GRO link again?, it's working for me. Or just Google GRO. Choose order certificates online and then you can register/sign in. It is so useful , especially for eliminating possible deaths. Hope it works.

Thanks I’ll try again
Dave
Nope, just seizes up

Ancestry: baptisms at Marshfield -
Rosina COX - 28 December 1834, parents: Daniel (occ: Thatcher) and Hannah
Daniel COX - 21 March 1837, parents: Daniel (occupation: Thatcher) and Hannah
William COX - 6 September 1840, parents: Daniel (occupation: Labourer) and Hannah
Can't see William COX on GRO INDEX and Daniel is pre Sept 1837

Thanks again, I think I have finally sorted out the GRO. Previously I've been using FreeBMD, for whom I used to transcribe, so I was unaware of advances in GRO. I can't find William Cox either.
