Good afternoon everyone…
I belong to a genealogy club in March-en-Famenne, Belgium, (French speaking south) and one of the members put out a request for a certain Lucien L. Engles. Lucien married Wilhelmina B. Richel in ‘Oct-Nov-Dec’ 1916, Registration District Wandsworth. (Vol. N°1d, Page Number 1316)
I don’t have a birth date or place for either of them, so I was unsuccessful with census and baptisms on Ancestry. I was also absent for this meeting, so I was unable to get any hint concerning nationality. The names do tend to relate to our side of the Channel.
Can anyone help this person ? Any information would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
…, Iain.
PS I'm having computer problems. But I will reply asp.

Hi,
There's a Lucien Engles born c.1877, who is boarding with the Willocks family in Manchester in 1901. He is described as a 'commercial clerk' from Philippeville, Belgium:

Queenie :)
EDIT: Looks like a red herring - see post below.

Have you seen this?

I think this could be very helpful, even if some of it is inaccurate.

Queenie…, this is amazing. RootsChat never ceases to amaze me.
It’s also embarrassing as with names like that, Geneanet should have been my first port of call.
A note of interest for those in the UK…, Geneanet is 'totally' free.
I have given the club the URL to this page and I’m sure they would want me to transmit their thanks. Thank you. ;)
Have a nice afternoon. (horrible weather here in Belgium)
Stay safe…, Iain.

Queenie…, I’ve just had a message from them.
“Thanks for this answer, Iain, but Mrs Borzée would like to know where (to write, or call) to obtain a copy of the marriage record celebrated « between October 1916 and December 1916 in Wandsworth, Surrey » !
A way to know more about the bride !”
Address, email or telephone number ?
Thank you…

As QueenoftheWest is off line.
You order them from the GRO
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/menu.asp
It’s free to register, then you select “order Certificate or PDF.” In the top left hand corner.
For a marriage it has to be a certificate unfortunately. £11
Enter the details you have already posted.
Pay and wait.

BTW. The cert will only have the father’s name, not the mother.

Mckha..., thank you very much.
I will email them the info.
Very kind of you..., Iain.
