Could anybody please help me find what happened to my wife's cousin, Eva Violet Popiel (nee Woodyear) Born Surrey, England in 1916?
The last I have of her is that she resided in South Africa, from a South Africa Identity Index entry that I found, and my wife's faint recollection of her going there. Her husband, Stefan Stanislaw Popiel died in North Wales in 1999. Thank you.

Is there a date or address on her SA Identity Index entry?

Hi Hillhurst. Thanks for your reply. No, I’m afraid that’s all I’ve got. I seem to remember that it was on a site that just gave the barest details, without a hefty subscription.
-
In that case, try searching for her on Family Search (which is free). FS has a sizeable SA records collection.
Her maiden name appears to be WOODYER, according to her 1916 birth registration.
Mother's maiden name: OWEN. Eva's DoB is 16 Feb 1916 (as per the 1939 Register).

According to the available SA indexes, Eva Violet POPIEL died on 17 Jun 1988.
Unfortunately I can't tell you anything more as these are pay sites.

Was there an obituary for her husband, it may give further details
-
Thanks Hillhurst for pointing me towards Family Search and yes, her maiden name has caused me a few problems with the family research, changing from Woodyer to Woodyear and back on different records!
And thank you TreeSpirit for her death date, that provides a time scale for further research.
I'll look into the idea of her husband’s possible obituary, thanks amondog

Thank you Pampoen. Sorry, I don’t know if they had any children. They married in 1949 and so, although not impossible!, it seems unlikely that the Popiels you kindly found are theirs. It pays to never give up though doesn’t it? I've just found a great great Uncle who ‘vanished' and turned up in Australia, It only took me ten years! 😀 Thanks again for your efforts to help.
