Title: Ann MICHELL - 1801 St Keverne
Post by: KhStevens on Friday 26 November 21 13:18 GMT (UK)
I wonder if someone has access to the actual parish register for St Keverne?

Ann Michell married William Tripcony/Tripconey (eventually: Tripp) 6 Mar 1821 in St Keverne. Census 1851, 1861, 1871 all place her year of birth 1800/1801 and place of birth St Keverne. Ann Tripp died 1877 in Brea, Illogan. The family had moved between 1841 and 1851 to Phillack and eventually to Brea and changed their surname to TRIPP.

In Family Search, there is only one Ann Michell baptised St Keverne 16 Dec 1801 - Daughter of James and Elizabeth but she is also transcribed, in both Family Search and Ancestry, as Avis Michell,  buried 22 Mar 1802. I have downloaded the film record and it could read Ann or Avis.

There is one Ann Michell born 1798 in St Keverne, but this one married Tobias James. Census 1851, 1861, 1871 all place her year of birth 1798/1799. Ann James died in Helston in 1891.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards,

Karen Stevens

Cornwall FHS have transcribed that 16 Dec 1801 baptism as Avis with parents James & Elizabeth.  Those parents then baptise another Avis 24 Mar 1803

Just for information the records mentioned by Rosie are also on https://www.freereg.org.uk along with a number of Michell. There are also a number of Mitchell records, I wonder if the ever get mixed up?

there's an earlier baptism in St Keverne
8 Dec 1798 Ann daughter of William & Ann Michell

Burial 25 Feb 1814 Ann Michell 42 Church Town wife of William

This looks like the BTs, burial for daughter of James & Elizabeth

and the baptism of Avis

Try using the Opc database instead of FamilySearch
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/person-search/

I would think that Michell & Mitchell is the same name. I've seen Pascoe with different spellings within the same marriage record.

Thanks, Osprey.

Ann, born 1798 - I believe I have proved her to be the one married to Tobias James.

I think it's safe to say, what could look like Ann is definitely Avis - 26 Dec 1801 as she was also Buried in 1802

Unfortunately the Cornwall Parish Register site does not include St Keverne. I'll just have to keep looking. Maybe I'll find a baptism in a nearby parish - so far, no luck.

Thank you for all your help.

Regards,
Karen

the Opc database does cover St Keverne

https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/coverage/coverage-by-parish/#K

https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/person-search/
put Keverne in parish field and search on Ann Mi - to get Michell & Mitchell.
Once you've found the date for something, you can check the registers on FamilySearch

Thanks, Osprey.

I see that my problem with the Cornwall-opc-database, was that I was entering 'St Keverne', not 'Keverne'. It will certainly come in handy as a 3rd option for Cornwall searches.

I appreciate all of your time looking at Mary Michell and Ann Michell and especially for finding the marriage of William Tripcony to Ann Michell. I have now, happily, linked 3 DNA matches to my tree!

Cheers,
Karen
