Good Morning Folks
Thought I would start a new week again
I watched the first part of the Louise Woodward case last night, I have a feeling it has been on before
After a nice day yesterday, crisp but sunny this morning had a beautiful sun rise, it seems a bit dark but dry this morning but it does look like dark clouds lingering
I am no doubt like a lot of people after Christmas, although I didn't over eat I have decided to shed a few pounds, won't do me any harm, time will tell if I stick it out
Have a god week everyone, take care
Louisa Maud

Started the week off in great style!
Phone rang fairly early this morning ,as I as expecting the engineer to phone with appointment to repair the boiler,I leapt out of bed ,staggered and smashed into the door frame , the architrave moulding is crisp and I am lucky
I do not have a gash , only half an egg sized lump above my Rt eye.
Thank goodness for ice packs and Witch Hazel.
The boiler will be done tomorrow late afternoon .
I pleaded insanity, old age and infirmity ,but no ,tomorrow late afternoon.
So long coms on ,fur lined vests ,fleecy socks ,balaclava ( babies lose a lot of heat from their heads and as I am in my second childhood ——) I should be OK.Got 2 mobile heaters and good gas fire .Electric blanket with all night facility etc .
Not opened the curtains yet to keep heat in .
A year or so ago neighbours would be knocking to make sure I was OK, but many people have gone “ into themselves” ,for want of a better term.
Well things to do but no places to go .
Must follow Roobarb’s advice re getting tests .
Following Pharma’s lead :-
Smoked Haddock Chowder.
50 g of butter.
Two leeks trimmed and sliced.
Two large potatoes, peeled and diced .
400 ml fish or vegetable stock .
550 g of skinless,boneless smoked haddock .
500 ml milk
1 Bay leaf.
3 Ts chopped parsley.
Melt butter and seethe leeks gently for 10- 15 mins.
Add diced potatoes ,stock ,to leeks and simmer for ten to fifteen minutes .
Put haddock in another pan with bay leaf and cover with milk ,simmer very gently ,covered for 8-10mins.
Drain but keep milk.
Flake fish.
Add fish and milk to pan with leeks and potatoes .
Reheat gently ,add black pepper and check salt .
Serve with crusty bread or warm cheese scones .
Viktoria.

Viktoria, do take care jumping out of bed, my husband just sits on tbe edge of the bed to almost come to, me, well i am known for jumping out of bed unless it is in the dark hours, hope you feel better soon
Like the recipe , rarely do you see recipes for one person as my other half prefers meat, proper red meat, not fish or chicken to often and I never did extra meals when my daughter was home, we ate the same
I have promised myself to shed a few pounds so I am watching what I eat

Had a cry about the defence of the Downing st parties. Apparently they were under stress, were working hard and needed to let off steam. When these parties were happening I was answering a complaint about me stepping out to have a quick drink of water and go to the toilet during a 12.5hr shift. I realise I am being a selfish, overly-entitled b***ch but it upsets me that some people are considered to have earned the right to have a party even though they were illegal at the time but i have reached middle age and not yet earned the right to carrying out functions required to sustain life. I shouldn't be so mad as I have only myself to blame for being such a sorry excuse for being a sorry excuse for a human being. I do feel guilt for feeling so tired all the time when I haven't reached the stage oof earning basic human needs and frustrated that the tiredness means I cannot comprehend how I can start doing more.
I'm not sure how much more I need to do. I don't want to reach the right to attend an illegal party stage but I'd like to reach proper human being stage. The people defending the party are generally the same people who tell scum like me who lazy and horrible we are, how we're responsible for all the deaths. I do know what ultimately the right thing for me to do is but I have to many responsibilities to do that just now.
On a plus note there was some light in the sky when I dropped the wee off this morning and there wasn't rain bouncing off the road. I've logged some more of my sources, over 5600 done now, still nowhere near done. catch is I keep realising I haven't done this that or the next thing yet and end up adding the kids who're listed in the census then researching them instead of just logging what I already have so I am ending up with more 'too many' people in the tree. Hopefully tough this year I can get all my sources logged and my tree will be a little bit more acceptable. Although I suppose I really should be getting a an extra job and upping my hours

I am not sure about whether to post on the last thread or this thread but I have decided this thread as we are now quite into the week.
Thanks Pharma, for the mention of Nadiya Hussains scrap soup. I have googled this and it looks really nice on the image.
Thanks for mentioning the film Ruskie; I have seen it and have read the book and I enjoyed both. Our library used to have free film events on before covid; these events still haven't been resumed. It used to be lovely - free tea and coffee and biscuits would also be laid on and people would bring sweets and pass these around. I managed to attend on 3 occasions and that was a film they showed once. I remember watching 'The Butler' and 'Dunkirk'. Both excellent films which had me welling up. I remember Kenneth Branagh in Dunkirk looking through a telescope or binoculars (can't remember exactly) and someone asks what he can see and when he said "Home" and you see all these boats coming to the rescue! I almost felt like a right wally in public but I couldn't prevent the tears streaming down my face at that point. Such a moving scene! Aah! those were the days .. will they ever come again .. probably perhaps if life is heading back to normal as predicted.
Thanks Viktoria, for the mention of the fish recipe, I am a pescatarian really so I would be able to make this.
My Diary: Last night, on way home after having been out and about, I was walking along to pavement when a young lad (looked like a school age teenager) came haring past on an electric scooter. He was going at such high speed, much faster than a car it seemed to me. What really annoyed me was that he shouted "Get out of the way!" in the most rude tone at me. I did wonder what his response would have been if he had ran me over? Would I have just got abuse for having been in his way? Well, all I could think was there goes a lad who has not been brought up properly.
I will be going into work later. I might have to see if anything can be done about my rota. I have a lot of hours coming up very close together soon. Technically, it is okay as it is the back end of one week and the start of the next. But seventy odd hours is still seventy odd hours no matter where it falls. I have done this on a few occasions but I might see if anything can be done. Shy bairns get nowt.
I know all workers in general are probably all meant to pull together that bit more at the moment but I am not a spring chicken anymore. I feel exhausted just thinking about what might be ahead if things can't be amended to better spaced shifts.
I know someone in care who worked 80 hours in a row a few months ago. She told me that the only way she could manage mentally was to tell herself that she only had to do 40 hours and then when this was done she told herself she just had another 40 to do. She said she had felt like a zombie at the end. I know someone else who also had to do similar but they became ill by the last day, so had to go off sick and lost a days pay.
I am not at all surprised that you hear of so many suffering from burnout at the moment.
-
RTL: You are SO RIGHT, "shy bairns get nowt!!"
Do try and get you shifts altered if you feel you would work better with a different pattern.
I hope you managed to sort it out.
Electric scooters can be a menace, and some local authorities are taking measures to ban them!
Hope today works out better.
Chowder looks good Viktoria... and Pharma's Thai curry too. :)
-
Thanks Mowsehowse, it is not that I will be asking to work less hours, I am quite willing to work the same but I do feel better spaced shifts would be heaps better. As I mostly, have 12 hour shifts with 3 hours daily (only 8 hours backshift today though) for travel in total, having so many shifts together will just run me into the ground. I am not getting my hopes up too much though, I have a feeling getting any amendment might be slim. If so, my usual method of getting through things is to try not to think ahead of the work that I am doing that day. I just try to think no further than one day at a time.
PharmaT, I quite understand your feelings about feeling constantly tired and feeling that there is not a lot can be done about it. Life can just feel like a treadmill, I know that doesn't sound very upbeat but that is the reality of it. So although I can't truthfully say anything positive, at least I can say I understand and empathise with how you feel.
Mowsehowse, I hope they do get those scooters banned. If that lad had collided with me, I think at the speed he was going I most likely would have been very badly injured by the impact. And believe me, he came very close to running me over. He might have even been injured too. And for him to have shouted at me to get out of his way in such a rude manner, like he owned the pavement, made me feel very cross indeed!! >:(
-
RTL, I’m glad you enjoyed the film. It is on television as I write, so I am multi tasking, watching and browsing rootschat. :)

Adult sized bikes are a menace on pavements .
The riders take short cuts through lights and congested traffic .
I crossed a busy road whilst traffic was halted on one side and a car on the other side flashed me that they would wait for me to cross.
As I stepped on the pavement a group of cyclists flashed past, I had not seen them as I passed behind a stationary van.
They would not have seen me either but they had no right to be there - I had.
I would have been tangled up with several bikes , no doubt there would have been injuries on both sides.
Mine most probably worse than theirs ,84 with Osteoporosis!
Had I stepped back to avoid the bikes it would have been into what had started to be a moving stream of traffic again.
They don’t use bells nowadays.
They come behind you on the pavement ,silently , I sidestepped to avoid some dog detritus and a bike which I did not know was behind me
had to swerve !!! Oooh ,the language!
Not from me!
Not sure what are the regulations - whatever- bikes on pavements are are
dangerous .
Viktoria.
-
I was nearly toppled over last week on the pavement when a schoolboy rode past me, I didn't hear him, the sun was in my eyes and I was trying to avoid a woman coming towards me as I almost couldn't see her, no apology but I am sure if he had been knocked off his bike it would have been my fault , scooters are the same problem, they should ban adults on these things
LM
-
I'm heartily sick of cyclists bombing along the pavements, with no consideration at all for any age or fitness of pedestrians, and if possible even more sick of the people on electric scooters, weaving all over! none of them seem to have any road sense, or traffic sense, and put one in fear.
Some years ago, when I was younger and braver I didn't get out of the way of a loutish lad bombing on his bike along the city pavement, but simply stopped still and "braced" my shoulder - he came into me, and wobbled and fell off, in a very inelegant way as his feet seemed to be fast to his pedals. Lovely revenge, for this sweet old bat. I had a bruise on my shoulder, but it was really worth it, especially a people jeered at him, and were not at all sympathetic.
TY
-
If I had toppled towards him he would have been knocked by my shepherd's pie that was in a bag on my right side, I had made for my friend on chemo, he might not have got up easily, pesky bikes and scooters
Years ago my husband witnesses an autocation on the sea wall, the cyclist expected the man to move, he didn't and the cyclist fell down the slope, got up and punched the other man I the face, he insisted my husband to call the police and an ambulance, which he did, also rang his father, he was a man in his 30' who had problems with the cyclist before, he should have learnt a lesson and stopped riding along the sea wall, they were joy riders after school but they were long gone before the police and ambulance arrived, I tried to talk my husband out of walking the sea wall

Viktoria, I hope your recent nasty bump on eye area is getting better. I also hope boiler will be back in full swing soon.
Just as an aside, I hope something can be done about the crisis regarding energy prices predicted to rocket. I saw an article yesterday about one energy provider sending customers ideas about keeping warm. Apparently these included things such as wearing merino socks, cuddles and star jumps!! :o I hope something can be done about this looming crisis; it is absolutely outrageous that so many might be forced into a situation of eating or heating. :-\
Louisa Maud, I hope all is going well with your friend's treatment. You sound like you are a good support to her and I hope she enjoyed your shepherd's pie.
It sounds like a few of us on here have had bad experiences with cyclists. I wonder if cycling proficiency tests should be brought back in schools? (Amongst my memorabilia, I have a photo of one of my brothers and his school friends and examiner during test - before my time). Perhaps offenders could also be sent to schools to do a course and a test regardless of their age. That would teach them!! ;)
I do not know the regulations of electric scooters but surely people ought to be at least age 18 before being allowed to roam around on these? These are very dangerous in the wrong hands and the lad who nearly ran me over looked much younger than 18.
Well, I am glad I was not a 'shy bairn' yesterday regarding my badly spaced shifts. To my surprise, they listened :D and were quite understanding about it!! Things have now been amended after all and the shifts are better spaced. :)

The washing machine engineer is coming today but again no text to give me an indication of a time slot. I have ordered a washing board to try and make hand washing easier as I not 100% confident that he will be able to fix it today. Thinking best case scenario he'll have to order parts.
Got distracted in logging my sources again and did some more research on collateral lines accidentally discovering that my daughter is related to one of our neighbours.
-
Woke up to a beautiful morning, sun out but there is frost on the car so I assume it is chilly, I might venture out for a walk later
PT, hope the machine gets sorted out once and for all, when I was very young and lived in what I can only call terrible conditions my mother had to do her washing in a tub, I would stand on a chair with a wash board and scrub the hankies, my mother told me I enjoyed it, strange thing is I do sometimes hand wash things
RTL, my friend I met at what I call the stork club, well in fact I picked her up at a bus stop on the way to relaxation classes some 50 plus years ago, we are good friends so me doing her a meal from time to time is just a little help, she is now hoping she can have an operation followed by chemo.
Viktoria, hope you are feeling better
Have a good day folks
LM

Pleased to hear they've sorted your shifts out RTL, anything that makes your work even a little easier must be very welcome. Completely agree about the energy prices, it's such a worry for a lot of people, cuddling the cat doesn't quite cut it.
Hope for successful repairs for your washing machine PharmaT and your boiler Viktoria.
Lovely sunshine here today, it's cold but not unexpected in January.
-
Think I have cracked it, years ago I did a step class, recently I was bought a door step to go outside, got it on and have done some steps this morning, tin of beans for arm exercise and away I go,

Morning all
It’s a lovely sunny day here and not cold. I walked up to the coop to get a couple of things - milk and sausages ( sausage pasta for tea for us and the grandchildren tonight ) and it was lovely ( it’s uphill there and downhill back - best way! )
Hope pharma’s washer gets fixed soon and glad to hear about RTL shift changes.
I did cycling proficiency back in the day and still have my badges and certificate.
As granddaughter who is 1 is happily playing with her toys, I’m going to put prime ministers questions on now to see what happens -if anything - today.
-
I see that Boris has admitted that he was at the lockdown do for 25 minutes and has apologised. It beggars belief that anyone thought it was acceptable, regardless of whether it was a works do or any other kind of do. The 'bring your own booze ' is a bit of a giveaway in itself.
Warmed up a bit here since I posted earlier.
-
Well, good news re shifts ,folks.
I have almost never been a demander ,so almost got nothing but what did come to me was really appreciated.
A dry but fairly dull day today, however ,some brightness in the lovely colours round my right eye!
The bruising has sunk now , I look like half a panda!
A nearish Neighbour came round a day or so ago, to say her son had died, very suddenly of an undiagnosed illness ,very sad - she relied on him as she has macular degeneration and he shopped for her etc.
She needs help and is registered partially sighted ,I suggested she get in touch with Social Services but she won’t hear of it.
I asked re family ,two daughters within walking distance!
But “ They are busy” ——
I have no idea why she expects no help from them .
I would love to help her but she must accept what she can rightfully have before asking others who have their own problems ,to help.
A very nervous person, she comes found the corner to call at my house to ask me what workmen are doing in houses nearer to her than to me!
I am nosey but not that bad!
But I do feel so sorry for her ,but whatever the rift is her daughters have a duty to her ,if only to set up the assistance she might be eligible for.
Oh Dear, what a shame ,her son would be perhaps in his forties ,again very nervous ,couldn’t stand sill.
I said I would walk with her (as they two did every afternoon ,)round the cemetery but as and when it fitted in with my appointments ,how I felt and the weather etc .It will do me good.
Not sure if she would even set off on her own, but she did come round to me.
However I think I will only step in if her family don’t rally round .
She is a very private person and it can be difficult helping people like that
so I will bide my time ,the best people are her daughters.
She would be suspicious if I shopped for her
and she would be very difficult re goods bought in the local supermarket as her son shopped for her in a cut price supermarket in Bury .I could add to my list with Tesco but she would query the slightly higher prices and I’d get fed up then!
We will see.
At the moment I am still limiting my contacts , and given the state of my black blue purple and greeny yellow face ,it will be some time before I am in circulation again.
I mean to say — I have my reputation to uphold ,and can’t let it be known I had a brawl in a sleazy bar
What a pity that in all the years she has lived where she does ,she has no close contact with neighbours of many years.
The Louise Woodward programme ended oddly, lots of info from the time not discussed , lots left unsaid but if the older boy was in some way involved ,what could be done? Just a little child himself .
However to trust two children to a young inexperienced untrained girl—-?
Tesco delivery this afternoon , no paper list this time grrrr ,THEY are forcing me into going digital or something ,back to gas please!
So off to clean fridge , and throw away that walnut sized lemon !Although it would clean something! If I can saw it in half!
Number two son will probably phone today, working from home with international time zones ,not many times in the day when it is convenient so I leave it to him.
Cheerio, look after yourselves .
Viktoria.
-
I'm afraid I disagree that children have an automatic duty to their parents. Now these daughters may just be being selfish. Alternatively their mum may have been hiding how much she is struggling. A third option is that she may have been abusive towards them warranting no contact. Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing this individual. It's just I hate the idea of automatic duty to care for someone just because they're blood related. That would mean my girls owe my ex despite everything and in fact as for me I am planning on the basis that I will be completely alone in my old age as I want them to live their own lives.
-
Well engineer been. Says it's a water pressure issue. He has ordered a new valve that works at lower pressure, so at least another week with no washing machine. He says if this doesn't work no washing machine will so will be permanently hand washing doesn't work well with my contaminated uniform which is supposed to be washed at 60C. Also doesn't explain why I've had a working machine for years up until last month.
-
Perhaps your neighbours have the same problem.
The water company supplying your properties are surely obliged to get the pressure up to a level where washing machines will work.
Not sure about Scotland but in England people pay water rates ,and mine with one adult only in a two bedroomed house are £545 per year for the
Water and waste water charges..
A couple of months ago they gave notice they were flushing the pipes through and we might get some grit in our water systems ,well we did,it stopped my boiler working ,that was sorted but it stopped again this weekend and again fine grit in the system.
In Clare in Suffolk near where my daughter lives ,so many boilers were damaged by grit after pipe flushing United Utilities had to pay up.
I have a service contract so it cost me no extra than what I pay each month
but without a contract I certainly would have claimed against them .
Perhaps you can find out if neighbours have similar problems or contact your water suppliers .
No washing machine in this day and age ,unacceptable.
Especially given your job.
You would think your employer would launder uniforms given the strict
hygiene standards expected.
My Hotpoint needs minimum pressure 0.05MPa(0.5 bar),maximum pressure
1MPa(10 bar)
I think the chap who said about the pressure needs to explain why your machine has worked hitherto ,so why not now?
If the pressure has altered then your water supplier needs to know pressure is down ,as other problems could arise.they can’t expect people to manage without washers. It is unlikely to be just your washer.
If you have time look at the instruction manual ,check the pressure needed max and min than check with your supplier as it could affect your boiler too perhaps.
Wonder if there is a serious water leak somewhere in the mains supply pipes so pressure will be down.
Hope it gets sorted for you.
Viktoria.
-
Louisa Maud, what an enduring friendship you and your friend have had since the 'stork club' days. I think it sounds like you are the type of friend who is a blessing to have. I know your friend will be facing a difficult time and I am glad she has someone like you in her life, giving her care, kindness and support.
Pharma, I hope it will end up that the new part will fix the washing machine. I presume you are having to just soak your uniform, in very hot water, before washing by hand for now?
Roobarb, a bit more about the shifts.. It turns out that this rota was originally someone else's, but they had complained. Then it was like, no problem, we'll just give this punishing shift pattern to (RTL) instead. ::) That seems to have been the easiest solution rather than trying to adjust the other person's shifts. I think that it had been expected that I would just roll with it like I have on a number of occasions. Now, in the switch this younger person, whose journey is much faster by car, seems to have a much better run of things doing what was originally planned for me. Apparently, it is all her fault for having complained and got them to switch things. I don't blame her though; I know things can be hard but I think that the buck should really lie with those in charge to ensure that people don't face being run into the ground rather than just looking about to see who might take a hit. Anyway, as I have said, things have since been sorted. They have permitted me to use up one of my days holiday in the middle of the pattern, so hopefully I won't be too much run into the ground.
I woke in the early hours ruminating about this and other demoralising things such as that there is no time for breaks. Sometimes, there might be time for one person on a shift to go off the floor to have a break but no one wants to be that one person going off when you know that everybody else can't have one too. Plus we are deducted pay for these 'entitled' breaks that in reality we can't have. Of course, as care staff by very nature we are too caring and selfless to mind such trifles as this. ::) I once found something which suggests to me that one of my Great x 3 Grandfathers worked as an Irish navvie when he first came over to England and honestly, at times, I feel like the apple hasn't fallen very far from the tree. ::)
I see that energy company has since apologised. It probably was all meant as well intentioned but I think that it is going to be humiliating enough for people to not be able to afford heating soon without being advised to cavort about like clowns at home doing star jumps and holding hula hoop competitions, etc. Ridiculous and insensitive! I think this situation is very serious and it really does worry me that it might end up with some of the very vulnerable in society, trying to do without and dying of hyperthermia as a consequence.
I will be on way to work shortly. I wasn't able to get back off to sleep since waking in the early hours and I am so tired I could cry.
-
Sorry to hear about those going through difficult times either personally or with friends and family. Hope things improve soon.
Viktoria, are you on a water meter? If not it might be worth looking into. Our bill went from £800+ on rates to £320 per annum on a meter and that’s with two people in the house. We also had the option to go back to rates system within the first two years if we weren’t happy so nothing to lose really. Don’t think I’ll bother though 😜.
PharmaT definitely complain to your water supplier about the water pressure, my BIL works for a water supplier and they do tweak things based on the number of complaints in one area until another area starts to complain. Ours can go so low sometimes that if won’t trigger the hot water on the combi boiler, at which point BIL gets a call!
All the best to everyone

Back home after the latest hospital visit :D
Consultant found the errant kidney stone; lodged in prostate!
Anyhow, it's now gone.
Maybe coincidence, but my walking (and balance) has improved?
Went to pub last night; no walker required, no stick either!

Good news KG. hope it lasts. :)

Yes, it's really strange that i had a working washing machine until last month. Doesn't really fit with these properties can't have washing machines. I know my neighbour through the wall's washing machine is fine. I had a rant about taking so long to do something about mine and she didn't mention problems. I feel ripped off as the point of paying for a repair or replace service is so that i don't have to go weeks without a washing machine. So asking myself what I'm paying for. I called the landlord to get a plumber to check the pipes but can't book a plumber in advance apparently as that will mean the stats say they didn't deal with problems fast enough. So what I have to do is call each day that I am free to stay in all day and hope a plumber is available that day. So no idea how long it will take for the issue to be logged.
I have to soak them, RTL but then I have to sanitise the whole area, adding to all the work I have to do and makes me anxious about contaminating my small kitchen. I had a look at those 'washing machines' that look like butter churns but they're just as expensive as the electric ones. I don't think I can afford one and begrudge paying that much to do all the work myself.
Viktoria, they closed the onsite laundry at work as it "wasn't needed". There is just a central one covering 6 hospitals so that we often run out of bedding.
Get my new glasses today and then court tomorrow, if it's not cancelled again
-
Well done KG, keep up the good work
LM
-
Good Luck at court PT
LM
-
No not on a water meter, Pinetree but thanks, when I had the dog I used the hosepipe almost daily
and felt it would be more expensive to have a meter.
Glad things are betterKG.
RTL, that is iniquitous!,Talk about putting upon people’s good nature!
Pharma ,never having really read and digested my washer instructions before
I am flabbergasted to find I am supposed to turn off the water supply after each use “ as the water’s high pressure puts a strain on the hose”—
So I drag it out each time do I ?
Not on your Nelly!.
Most are set in the kitchen units or utility room, how stupid!
Honestly if men did the washing that would not be expected. ;D
Daughter sent more pics of her new horse,he is so playful ,shaking out his own rug this morning !
Hope things get sorted in Court Pharma and your washer gets sorted ,do you have a service contract as I do with Domestic and General, but the boiler one ,at least ,is always done with the boiler manufactures so if a part is found to be needed they have it in the van so no waiting for a second appointment .
LM, I too have a friend from our children’s babyhood days ,she lives in Wales now but we are in touch regularly.
Friends for - my son is 65 this year so -about 63 years.
Roobarb, hope all is well with you.
We have not heard from Erato for a while.
I sent a PM but as yet no reply.
We cross swords regularly but I recognise she / he is highly educated with a wealth of knowledge.
Mowsehowse ,all OK?
Well must make shape and do some housework ,a load of towels to be washed ,we don’t know we are born do we?
No dolly tub to drag out ,no mangle to open up, etc etc ,just Chuck them in,slam the door, put detergent in drawer ,turn a knob etc and all done
Oh Mum,how you slaved !
Mind you —- we were -for obvious reasons not allowed to “ make washing!”
So best wishes Pharma with your difficulties.
Viktoria.
-
Unfortunately court won't be over tomorrow, it is just the latest stage. At least more 11 years to go.
I have a repair or replace contract for my washing machine Viktoria. Feeling a bit ripped off by it tbh since the whole point is not going weeks without a washing machine. I actually wish I had a dolly tub and a mangle etc it would be easier than trying to wash in my sink which is rather small.
-
Not too bad thanks Viktoria..... I read the posts most days, but often I have no words, and I would wish to be uplifting, which is not always possible.
Did have a moments joy during the week, when I am fairly sure I spotted 3 or 4 dolphins in Torbay, though they weren't close enough to be sure or to snap. I did take the coast path route, but whatever it was had long gone, of course. Still, it was fun looking.
Hope you survived your shift on so little sleep RTL, and Court wasn't too awful Pharma.
Good wishes to all.
-
Well folks,I suppose it was only a matter of time,-
Applying today re a little dog at The Dog’s Home ,filled in some details and sent off.
Reply came “ Thank you for your interest in Viktoria .”
So I am up for adoption ,have been spayed ,can be left alone for reasonable periods.etc etc .
I need high fences as I can jump very high.
I am not buying myself, I know my shortcomings and vices!
Not when I can have myself free!
Hey Ho!It won’t be anything I have done ::)
Just laughing at “ Last of the Summer Wine “Oh dear, little Wally ,Norah Batty’s husband who might have come from Whitehaven where many people sound r the way he does.
Hope things went well for Pharma, but eleven years more!
The children will be grown up and married by then.
Know nothing about the Scottish legal system, except sometimes it seems more logical than ours .
Well an earlier night tonight as some shopping tomorrow.
Hope it is a dry day ,some washing to hang out if it is.
Pharma has made me think ,when my hob had to be replaced I got it free in the contract but I had to pay for installation and disposal of old one.£115.
Imight query that.
Well ,hope everyone is keeping well.

Yes, 11more years. He can keep raising new cases and complaints against me until the youngest is 18 and then has 3 years to sue me for the mental anguish that I have caused him.
-
Yes, it's really strange that i had a working washing machine until last month.
Aside from a faulty valve issue, it’s possible that your water pressure may vary, and be slightly stronger or weaker at certain times of day, especially if you live in flats. At weekends or after work, for example, it could be that more people are drawing on the water. If the replacement valve sorts the issue try changing when you put the washing machine on.

I put it on at all different times of day as the girls create so much laundry and the issue occurs at all times of day.
-
Does the washer belong to you or your landlord? If you own it and it continues to have issues, get a new one. Or got to the launderette. Blitz all your clothes once a week. A 40-minute journey really isn't that inconvenient. Not if you have a car. (A few years ago I would lug 4 large and heavy laundry bags via bus to the local launderette every other week, about 20 minutes away).
You mention adding sources to your family tree. Couldn't you do that (on a laptop) whilst at the launderette? Kill two birds with one stone.
-
The washer belongs to me. I am mad as I have been paying for a repair and replace cover on it so I am supposed to get a new one if they can't fix it. Money is really tight as he left me in a lot of debt so I' wary if spending money on one in case the guy is right that it is impossible to run a washing machine in the property. I can't really blitz the washing one a week as my uniform must be washed immediately and I only have 2 uniforms, i work 12.5hr shifts. I get home and with nothing else in the machine at the time. i also only have 3 outfits so I don't personally own enough clothes to do laundry weekly. i'd probably need to o every day off and drag the girls with me
-
in case the guy is right that it is impossible to run a washing machine in the property.
That doesn't make any sense. Sounds like your neighbours have washers, correct? Do you live in a flat or house?
Why job requires you to wash your uniform immediately? Do you work in a hospital lab? Or are you a hospital nurse? Can't your employer supply you with more than 2 uniforms?
Still think the launderette makes sense. Take your girls with you, and it will make them think twice about going through endless changes of clothes each day. Either that, or make them wash their own clothes in the sink. They'll soon get the message to keep daily clothes changing to a minimum.
-
Good heavens 12 hour shifts and a family to run, but so many seem to have to do long hours working for the NHS regardless of their homelife and commitments
Impress upon the maintenance men what you do for a living, you can do it nicely without getting annoyed, the service does not sound good enough to be honest, surely they can see the predicament you are in.

I'm a hospital nurse and uniform allocation is kept to a minimum as comes out of ward budget.
It's a house. As far as I know all my neighbours have washers.
LM I feel really ripped off, the scheme I have been paying into was sold as making sure that I didn't end up going without a washing machines for weeks at a time.
-
permanently hand washing doesn't work well with my contaminated uniform which is supposed to be washed at 60C.
Do you work for the NHS? My friend's sister is an NHS nurse in England. I thought the NHS advises that home laundering is not appropriate for contaminated uniforms? I do appreciate that a 'used uniform' (not contaminated) that has been worn with appropriate PPE can be laundered at home.

The infection control guidelines state that ideally they shouldn't be washed at home but there is no other option as they closed the laundry years ago. I'm old enough to remember having a code and collecting a freshly laundered uniform each morning.

So limited or nil NHS laundry service for hospital staff in Scotland? That is shocking...and gross.
Then again, it could be worse. Some hospitals in the USA have told staff it's okay to come into work, even if they've just tested positive for Covid-19. :o
-
PT, if you are able could you write to the company concerned about your machine , it really isn't good enough

The rules are in many ways unworkable. For example we're supposed to remove our glasses at the end of a shift and seal them in a bag until we fully desanitise them at home, but how are we supposed to see to drive. They don't pay for a second pair of glasses.
Just having a wee cry. Plumber just been out from landlord. Pipes are fine it's the valve connecting the pipes to the washing machine hose that's the issue. It is too close to the washing machine for him to fix and too close to the pipes for the washing machine engineer to be allowed to fix it. So I need to get a private plumber to re do that section of pipework and it will cost £2-300 so I guess I will be hand washing for a few more years yet. :'(. Apparently it's because the firm whom I paid extra to to plumb it for me didn't plumb it in properly so I am liable.
Having concerns about the Higher biology. The marking key requires you to directly quote the text book. If you paraphase you are marked wrong, no matter how well you do it. So I feel they're only testing memorisation as paraphrasing suggests understanding better. It is possible to quote from a book without understanding it. I think it also suggests that those setting the exam don't understand the course. So I have to question why are people setting exams in a subject they can't do themselves?
Now to go and pace the floor at court.

Would a new hose sort it out.
I would have thought they were standard length but extensions might be available .
Did not know it was a valve, thought it would be a coupling from the water to the machine ,at the machine end well yes,a one way system, as you don’t want water from the machine getting into the supply pipe .
Says she who failed her plumbing stage one!
People can buy a machine and install it themselves if they are handy I think.
Try your insurer again , they insured it as it is now, you have been paying for cover as it is now, so it has worked up to now so what has changed other than perhaps water pressure so if neighbours have full use of their washers
then the fault is with your individual supply ,does pressure seem low with your taps.
If it is individual to you to that might be a slow leak in your supply ,or perhaps a burst or slow leak in the mains supply .
Ask your insurers to send someone else, you have not stopped paying so they must come .
Don’t things always come at once!
You can never put your mind to just one thing .
Let me fix a date for something and everything goes wrong and everything else demands attention!
Sincerely hope it is sorted very quickly ,however, see the positives, ie your daughter must use her towels more than once and she will see she won’t come to any harm ,only her using it so no “ cross contamination”
In fact I always had individual towels for personal use for each family member ,two each, a top one and a tail one .Changed every couple of days ,so maximum when we were five people ten towels two to three times a week plus kitchen and hand towels .
I would not dry a baby’s face with a towel used at a nappy change .
Well not after the training we got.
Let’s hope things go well at court for you Pharma, then tackle this ,first with your insurers.
What the visiting repair man said does not seem right ,you can see that yourself .They are not always correct.
Demand another visit and an explanation re why neighbours do not seem to have the same trouble .
Do you want me to come and sort him out?
I have a hideous black eye right down to my cheek from a head bump - I will say “ you should see the other fellah” ,then stand over him !
Cheerio. Viktoria.
-
Viktoria
You are first on my list if I want someone sorted out, do you sort out husbands!!!
If my mum saw someone with the black eye she would remark how about the other one or have you seen the other one, Viktoria, take care with yourself,
But joking apart it is a real predicament for pharma T
LM
-
Viktoria he has ordered a new valve that will open at a lower pressure because the pipes are not letting enough water through at a time. THe issue is not the washing machine hose but the kitchen pipes that that is attached to. My service contract is for my appliances so they can only work on the appliances. The Landlord's plumber agrees that the pipes are an issue but says it is my responsibility so would need to source and pay for a plumber which I'll have to save up for. I have tried to complain but the landlord says they cannot reverse the decision but can go through complaints procedure but they'll tell me the same so need to go through complaints so that I can then go to ombudsman. this will take months and I obviously need to get washing done in the mean time. Got a quote from the laundrette today. £20 per load! well seeing it's a while since I set foot in a laundrette
-
Have you some sort of citizens advice bureau/office you could talk to, you need someone to back you up it sounds like
LM
-
Our local citizens advice lost funding and shut down. I contacted shelter but all they can do is help me through the complaints procedure which takes months and they can only help advocate for me not speed it up.
Well I took matters into my own hands and a local plumber thinks he may not have to completely replumb the whole kitchen and just replace a small section of pipe will do it for £40 if that is the case and as he is local will pop in tonight after work as small job. However as it is the landlord's pipes he needs permission to do it. They are refusing to give emergency permission for me to fix the plumbing problem they are refusing to fix using a registered plumber. I can go through the home improvements permission system that takes 4-6 weeks and the person who deals with it has just finished for a half day before a fortnight's holiday so possibly be 6-8 weeks. They really want to have their cake an eat it. I am tempted just to say I've had verbal permission on the basis they told me to get a plumber and fix it but I'm scared of eviction.
-
Well, my OH did not need much sorting out really ,I suppose what really bugged me was a quality that was also to my benefit in other circumstances.
When applied to his mother, never ever took her to task when she was “difficult”, by the same rule he never criticised me to others, as my friends would say when I moaned about him,it was his way ,to be loyal.
So I took the plus and seethed about the minus.
He was so loved just really by being there, left the children’s’ secondary education to they and me, a quiet presence ,calm and patient.
Found it hard to praise, direct face to face but when talking to others he did.
Not a boaster so few knew about the “ three degrees” or my OU stuff.
But then no one knew about his hours and hours of night school ,for qualifications he could have had far easier had he taken his place at grammar school instead of the secondary modern where he only wanted to be on the football team, with his brother.
The school team often won some sought after cup in the schoolboys’ league.
But he was what he was , and he made our marriage easy .
Young people used to say “ married fifty years “ etc but as I told them ,he made it easy.
As you can imagine I was the hasty firebrand.
A good mix really .
Hope things get sorted for Pharma , a lot to cope with all at once.
Cheerio.
Viktoria.
-
PharmaT, you don't need a local citizen's advice office. You can contact them via the phone. I'm a landlord and trust me, that plumbing is the landlord's responsibility not yours. If he refuses to give permission or fix it himself then tell him you will seek legal advice. You need to be assertive, I can get called out for a picture hook that has fallen out of the wall!!
-
I have just had a massive arguement with them. I told them that if they are refusing to fix it then they have to let me fix it, I am not adding features just restoring an existing feature to a functioning state. They said I have 2 choices apply and wait (a couple of months with no washing machine) or get the plumber but then if they refuse retrospective permission then I am legally obliged to return it to it's non functioning state as I have to leave the property as I got it. It was working when I moved in.
Edit: I also stated that I beleived I had carried out my end of the contract by calling them in the first instance and allowing them the opportunity to repair it and that I considertheir refusal worded as "not my problem get a private plumber" as permission.
-
But it is their problem >:( I can assure you it's not your responsibility to pay for this. I advise putting an email together for your landlord so there is no misunderstanding or they can deny any knowledge of it. I think you should also check your tenancy agreement which clearly outlines what is the responsibility of the landlord, ie. fixtures and fittings. I shouldn't worry about threats to evict you, trust me tenants have more rights than the landlord!!
-
I'm so angry Jo, they're acting like I amtrying to remodel when all I want is to return a valve that was once in working order to a fully functioning state. And I've not started with the "i want to do it myself" mantra, I only went own that route because their plumber refused to fix it. They have now said that I can ask for retrospective permission but the foreman dislikes this as people should wait so likely to be refused. Would a court seriously uphold an order to return a functioning valve in the plumbing to a non functioning state?
-
PharmaT, I understand your frustration but I do advise against sorting this out yourself. Your landlord has the responsibility to sort out the plumbing. he should do it himself or send a plumber round. If you take this on and there are problems later on he could blame you and present you with a large bill to put things right. You could also be in breach of your tenancy agreement if you get a plumber in yourself and they make a botch of it. If you are in breach of your tenancy agreement then the landlord has the right to serve you with an eviction notice. Please don't try to fix this. Pass it straight to the landlord and quote the relevant part of the tenancy agreement which states what his responsibility is.
Good luck and keep me posted.

Excellent advice from someone who understands the complexities of landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities.
Get a local councillor onside too. NHS worker doing 12 hr shifts with 2 kids, having to wash uniforms at home, you should be a priority for repair.
Is it a private or public landlord?

Public landlord. My friend thinks the plumber just couldn't be bothered.

Here we are and almost another week gone of doing nearly nothing, it is a miserable day here today after having such a nice day yesterday, seems here in Essex we have every other day a pleasant day, it has been misty here this morning
I am a little apprehensive but have been asked to go to a theatre this afternoon, seems there is an unwanted ticket so I accepted, I have made myself a doubly insulated mask as masks must be worn throughout the show, so will test before I go, just have to hope all will be well
I hope all the poorly people are feeling better, Viktoria and MH
Take care

I once had a washing machine that wouldn't fill, inlet valve seized up I think. I filled it with water from the kitchen tap using a bit of hose into the powder dispenser tray. That meant the water level got high enough to trigger the water level sensor and start the wash cycle. A bit tedious and would be needed for wash and then again for rinses. Don't overdo filling, just go carefully until machine responds.

Hello all,
Well it's 10pm Saturday night in SE of South Australia and my week just turned Completely To S..t!
First my hubby felt unwell last sat night, asked me to take him to be tested on sunday.
I thought best I get tested too.
Tuesday, both positive.
At the same time my son-in-law tested positive, after which nephew(who lives with them) also positive.
Tonight my daughter messaged me to say she is too.
They have a 6yo and 1yo who are ok at the moment.
She will have to get nursing staff to test them at home.
This has all gone down the gurgler due to an outbreak at the local meatworks.
They kept working to clear chillers and provide meat for Woolies.
My fellas work there.
I am so upset and angry for my family!
Sorry to vent to you, but I have no-one else.
Bit teary too.
I had been so careful and stayed home on the farm for weeks.
Chris
-
So sorry to hear that Chris, I'm not surprised you're angry, it feels like a slap in the face when you've been so careful. I hope it doesn’t make you feel too poorly and your husband soon feels better. Feel free to vent, there are lots of us here to lend a sympathetic ear. Sending you a virtual hug across the miles. :-*
-
Thanks Roobarb,
Apart from being in isolation, I just feel isolated!
It is nice to have someone besides cats, dog, horses n the old boy to talk to.
Chris
-
I've often wondered during the last two years how we would have managed without our modern technology, it's good to be able to 'talk ' to people at the other side of the world in an instant. When I had Covid I was asked if I wanted to be put into a virtual hospital ward (due I think to my asthma). I reported my oxygen and pulse readings twice a day via an app, one day I forgot to report the second one and a nurse was soon on the phone to me to check I was okay. It was a great comfort to me despite it being only a virtual ward, I was very grateful to be able to use it.
I hope you manage to settle down a bit, I'm sure the animals must be a help.
-
Roobarb, that's interesting. I was speaking to someone the other day and they said someone they knew was on a virtual ward. I wondered what on earth she meant, now I know :) Thanks!
-
Yes, the diaries have been marvellous ,a great safety valve .
As I did not start them I don’t like to get pushy so it is lovely that Roobarb
has invited you to let off steam with us .
She was instrumental ( comb and toilet paper instumental ;D) in starting the diaries and they are much appreciated.
We almost feel we know one another.
Hope you all soon feel better .
Cheerio.
Viktoria.
-
Thanks for the accolade Viktoria but I can't take the credit, it was actually Trystan who started the diary threads, I just picked it up and ran with it! ;D It was such a help to me when I was spending so much time alone.
-
#69: I think the diary thread has been a huge help to many people, and I am glad it goes on, because clearly, many people are still beaming in. :)
-
I think it's stopped a lot of us simply going potty over all this time!
-
I must add to this as well, it has been very interesting to read how others have coped during the lockdowns, it has been almost a life saver to so many people, we now have an insight as to how others have coped and I feel that it has been a shared experience by so many on Rootschat, thank you Trystan
Louisa Maud
-
Just wanted to say bye to everyone on her as so many of you have been so supportive. I have caused too much upset to the point people think I'm a liar. I'm not just bad at explaining myself when trying to answer questions from multiple people. I apologise to everyone who has had time wasted trying to help me, someone who doesn't deserve it.
I am doing the right thing and leaving RC and will ensure I punish myself for the harm I have already caused.
I hope all who have issues with Covid are better soon. RTL hope your shifts stay reasonably spaced. Chrissie I don't blame you for being annoyed. Hope things improve soon.
Edit: Sorry forgot to say, send my apologies to Trystan and thank you for helping me keep company as work is the only time I have anything approaching adult conversation. Second apologies I did say I'd leave RC immmediately but rememered as soon as I pressed send that I hadn't said something.
-
I think it's stopped a lot of us simply going potty over all this time!
I agree!
-
PharmaT
You are not a bad person, I think at the moment you have a lot on your mind what with the court case and the dreaded washer , you work hard for your girls, does that make you a bad person?, no it doesn't, there is no need to punish yourself either, you have in my opinion caused no harm to anyone, we are all different people and deal with things in different ways
.
Rootschat in my opinion is a friendly place where we can talk about various things, the weekly summary since lock down has helped a great deal of people and I hope in some way you find that it has helped you also
Take care, I wish you all the best
Louisa Maud
-
Pharma, I think you have probably been through too much pressure lately and this might feel like a low day .. Please don't think about leaving RootsChat. Just because people ask questions this doesn't mean you are being called a liar.
Sleep on things and you might feel better tomorrow. I think it would be such a shame if you left so please don't go.
I wasn't planning to post tonight as I have not long since finished a 12 hour shift and I am extremely tired but I don't want to go to bed without saying something.
Will you just sleep on it .. things might seem better tomorrow .. we all have bad days after all. I think you are being a bit rash, please reconsider. We would miss you if you went. :'(
-
PharmaT, I don't want you to leave rootschat. I think the person you referred to calling you a liar was me. Let me explain, that under no circumstances did I insinuate that you were a liar. I pointed out that there was different variations of the situation regarding your washing machine and the plumbing in your house, and that I was confused as to what the real issue was. To be honest I still am. I, as a landlord gave you some advise regarding the implications of getting your own plumber in to do the work as apposed to asking your landlord to sending round his own plumber. Tenancy agreements are there to protect, and outline the responsibilities of both tenant and landlord. Tenancy agreements are legally binding and have far reaching consequences should either party deviate from it. As stated before, I advised you to check your tenancy agreement as a plumbing issue is the responsibility of the landlord. if the fault lies with the washing machine which is solely owned by you then thats a different matter altogether. I have been a landlord for over 20 years, and, in that time I have never allowed a tenant to get in their own trades people. I have heard countless times tenants say to me 'Brian down the road can sort it and will only charge 50 quid cash'. Brian down the road may well be able to 'sort it' but as a landlord I have a responsibility to ensure that all work carried out in one of my properties is done to a standard that meets legal health and safety regulations, and is done by a fully qualified tradesperson that can produce a warranty so it doesn't invalidate my insurance. I understand this has been very stressful for you and being without a washing machine will have been a nightmare BUT if you want people to help then please take their advice. You say the council is your landlord. Well, they will have their own list of approved contractors (as I do) to carry out work in their properties so they are very unlikely to give permission for you to bring in your own plumber. They do however have an obligation to visit your premises and carry out an assessment of the problem. If the problem is the plumbing then in accordance with the tenancy agreement, they have a legal obligation to fix it, that is providing that someone not approved by them has tampered with it.
I'm sorry if you think I was calling you a liar. I wasn't. I hope you get the washing machine situation sorted out soon as it's obviously causing you a great deal of distress.
-
There is no need for that Pharma, you are in a tizzy, no washer would make difficulties for me and I am alone .washing is bad enough ,but drying!
Phew ! In the supermarket today ,trying to keep a good distance from other shoppers, one must have left his clothes in the spin dryer for weeks,UGH !
What a pong!
Just calm down and re read the expert advice given about both your washer and your rights as a tenant.
Think calmly who said what about the pipes etc,I mean the first person to visit and give an opinion .
This came at a very bad time for you ,life can be a #£&#£& like that sometimes .
It will get sorted , there are ways to get round the difficulties as have been explained .
Try to get a good night’s sleep ,we all have these times.
It has nothing to do with how we are ,for example, why when we had a full structural survey done on a house we bought ,did the whole front elevation start leaving the rest of the house?
Because of an Earth tremor in 1929, the increase of traffic after the nearby motorway was built with huge 49’ lorries from the nearby quarry laden with millstone grit de stabilised the foundations and the already out of plumb wall did not like that
27 inches thick ,and centre of gravity was well over the centre 9” into the outer third .
A five ton lintel over the front door had a mind if it’s own too!
The rebuild cost as much as the house .
None of our children were working - Uni and College ,so I already worked at two schools so when - wait for it - my OH was made redundant I worked in an old people’s nome for two nights as well.
Then guess what, some nice furry stuff started to appear ,it was cancer iof
the house ,DRY ROT.
Were we downhearted no ,we were apoplectic !
Tried to sue the surveyor but they don’t have MRICS after their names for nothing ,The Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
That is who would have been fighting.
Saved our money ,well we had none ,borrowed from the bank .
Had Ramsbottom still had its own Urban Distruct Council the records of the Earth tremor would have surfaced in local searches ,but it had been engulfed in Bury, the records went in the town tip.
I felt as if everything was against us .
Strangely the builder we engaged to do the rebuild had found a few .
It all worked out , but I went white inside with the enormity if it all .
It felt like that.
I used to wonder what bad things had I done that all this should come to us ?
But we all know nasty people who prosper.
Sorry about that tale of woe, but we got through it Pharma .
I don’t minimise your problems , you are alone with this.
I have said before ,you put yourself down and others will.
Plenty of people on RootsChat have helped and encouraged you.
Look at it from our point if view ,whatever we say seems of no help .
People have personal worries -we all do from time to time but worried people
have tried their best to help and be supportive because we think you deserve some support.
That takes a lot when you are worried yourself and to get a little positivity back means a lot to them.
Try to think better about yourself what is this “ bad person”?
What is meant by “ not a proper person”.?
Is it a Scottish expression?
You are a functioning person ,doing a valuable job and bringing up children on your own.
That seems proper to me.
So less self deprecation would do you good.
You don’t need to have us say how you are ,it should be clear to you you do your best ,we all need to think positively about ourselves .
Second hand praise is nice ,but our inner self worth is by far the best.
Look in the mirror tomorrow and say to yourself “ I am not doing a bad job here ,not bad at all”.
That is not conceit ,but just valuing ourselves .
We have the right to do that.
Hope to hear the washer is soon sorted, a good kick might galvanise it into action!
Cheerio, Viktoria .

PharmaT
I think there has been enough said in the last 3 emails to make you feel you ought to rethink your decision and come back to Rootschat, by all means give yourself a rest but please return at sometime
Louisa Maud

Pharma, I just echo what LM has said. I think you have been under more stress than usual with all the washing machine trouble on top of everything else. I am hoping that you didn't really mean what you said last night about leaving, although perhaps you probably did really mean it at the time. It would be understandable if your post was made just at a point of high stress. Hopefully, you will reconsider. You would be missed if you left and I think you would miss RootsChat greatly too. The choice is yours of course, but I do not think it is the right decision at all for you to go. :-\
My diary:
Very tired first thing on Thursday morning, after very little sleep during the night. However, once I set off to the bus stop all tiredness disappeared and I felt okay throughout the whole day. On return though, I must have gone into a strange reverie. I was sitting looking out the bus window, and I was under the impression I was only about a third of the way home when I saw that I had actually gone way past my home stop. I hadn't fallen asleep so I don't know what happened there. Thankfully, I didn't have to pay more to return as I was still within the boundary for my travel pass. The wind was piercing and cold that night but fortunately i didn't have to wait for long for another bus. Fell asleep straightaway when I got in bed.
Friday morning the first bus was absolutely freezing first thing with all the windows open. (Weather later became quite mild during the day though). I felt I couldn't have been more freezing than if I had been strapped on the roof of the bus! First bus in evening didn't come so had to wait much longer - not what you want after a 12 hour shift. The driver on next service which eventually came said if there are not enough available drivers, services will be taken off.
Did 12 hour shift yesterday. Hadn't planned to post last night, I was just planning to have a very quick look. Saddened to see Pharma's post about leaving. :-\
Have used up today as a holiday to break up some originally badly spaced shifts which I felt would run me into the ground. Planned to go to Church today but didn't feel too great when I woke up. Very tired and had a headache. Lateral flow negative though. Headache now gone but I am still feeling lethargic. Disappointed to miss Church but I don't have much energy to go. Will just have a 'lazy' day instead.
-
A lazy day now and again won't do you any harm RTL, just enjoy the rest and come back refreshed
To be honest I really don't know how you do a 12 hours shift, I have done 12 hours from time to time but at the time I was needed and I chose to do it
Take care

My mind boggles at that too ,both of you ,indeed all who work in health services.
Called to see if the lady who has just lost her son needed anything ,her granddaughter had done some shopping for her.
How lonely she must be,hardly any sight and not good hearing.
No pleasure from TV ,Radio, books.
Not sure when the funeral of her son is.
Probably will be a PM as I think he died less than 24 hours after admittance.
What a lovely day, bright sunshine ,chilly.
Salmon for tea.
Got my tablets for the week to put in the little strips ,with drawers for each time of day.
I can see if I have forgotten to take any.
I am a druggie folks!
“I am on drugs “has a different connotation these days !
I was addicted to dolly mixtures ,well it is like that now but somehow they don’t taste the same .
Well, must get on , with something or other.
Cheerio, look after yourselves .especially those engaged in essential services.
Viktoria.

Today we were able to send Nick on his final journey. Andrew and our grandson Jackson have come from Oz for a couple of weeks and are with us here in Radstock for five days - all done at relatively short notice.
And so we took the opportunity of organising a farewell for Nick.
We decided in the end, after much discussion to take him back home to Bradford on Avon, where he grew up, and spent many happy hours in and around the Countryside Park next to the old Tithe Barn.
We had four of his mates from Radstock join us and three of his old school mates from Bradford (unfortunately one had tested positive this morning for Covid and couldn't be with us, ), together with our other son Mark and his wife down from London.
We had a very simple, but nonetheless moving "ceremony" on the old Packhorse Bridge which spans the river Avon, and took it in turns to scatter his ashes into the river below.
There were quite a few folks and families around even at the earlyish hour of 10.30 and the setting and weather was just right for the occasion. So peaceful and serene and yet vibrant with the surrounding areas adding to the scenario.
Following a quick walk around the town we repaired to a local Hostelry for drinks and lunch.
And so our long wait has ended as we sent Nick on his final joirney.
Thanks once again for all the "support" from RC members over the past 16 months since our dear son left us.

This was locked earlier and I had already started week ending next weekend

Not wishing to upset any applecart then but will post past week here, agree with folk having too much pressure and stress at times and it's enough to blow a foo foo valve … not sure if that is just an antipodean expression, when pushing self too far physically or in exasperation etc. Always good to see helpful support for others as well, first hand experience or encouragement along the way in an online forum, just sometimes the time lapses and crossing of posts etc can complicate it more than face to face along with reading between lines of some comments. I've had to quickly send messages to clarify rather too many times when flippant and apologise if offensive, had nose put out of joint myself too though at times but probably overthinking.
Loved your description of war paint, Viktoria, bit of mischief getting the colour though and changing daily in vibrancy I expect.
Jeff that really does sound very fitting for your family, being together and the opportunity to scatter the ashes in such a meaningful way. R.I.P your dear Nick.
Chris, stink scenario for you and your family in S.A, isolation and low numbers for so long but every precaution taken, do wish a speedy recovery for all.
Still on alert for the number of Omicron cases being detected at the NZ border/ MIQ. Also over the weekend on watch particularly in coastal areas for effects of the Tongan undersea volcano combined with the remnants of a tropical cyclone, some damage to moored boats in the wash up north and other places around the Pacific Rim also affected.
Week disappeared, caught up with a few friends, afternoon tea with recently moved former neighbours in their lovely new home and met one of the young neighbours from the street behind us who bought nearly a year ago. There is a high fence between us, replaced before house was sold so he drove around to ask if we would take out a tree, a native which is fruiting at the moment, also offered to pay for removal. Definitely understood his concern, he and his brother have just acquired a dog and the kernels of the drupes are toxic for them and the birds are dropping them everywhere but also making short work of getting through them. I've been picking up heaps of kernels too, they're about the size of a date and easy enough but then I don't have to hunt for hidden ones along with a daily pooper scoop. We enjoy seeing the native woodpigeons and also the tree is an evergreen screen for one corner, completely inside our property.
First trip to the mall in ages midweek, forced to front up at the bank now that cheques no longer in use and meet with other signatories from a group for withdrawal/bank transfer, neither of the other 2 have PCs for online banking but also we're in process of winding up which will solve that in due course. Took the opportunity to check out a department store, I had 2 gift cards I had been carrying around for a long time so sorted those out, not that I really needed anything but something for me, useful and long lasting all in one. Despite still being school holidays, mall was really quiet, sat with friends in open area cafe for a long catchup chat over coffee and plenty of free tables around lunchtime.
A bit different having husband around a bit less, midweek he started back at work on a much reduced schedule, went out with him late Friday afternoon on one of his rural joints* jaunts and to have fish and chips at the beach. It's very summery and having to water plants and fill bird baths regularly.
* We did visit a joint, lol, 'twas a respectable establishment.

Hi PharmaT
What is the Cold Mains water pressure like?
If we had an issue with low water pressure on the Cold mains at any property we worked at, we would contact the Water Authority (sometimes called a Water Undertaker) supplying the water and request a visit by their Inspector and request a water pressure check. This should be a free service as Water Authorities / Water Undertakers usually have a Statutory duty to provide a minimum water pressure.
You as a Water Customer should also still be able to request this free service and an Inspector's appointment?
Most washing machines used to work down to about 1 Bar of pressure (approximately 15 pounds per square inch / psi).
The Appliance Manufacturer's book should state the minimum water inlet pressure/s required. Often available online if the book is mislaid, or as a Pdf etc., from their Technical or Sales Team by email.
I've still got old Local Water Byelaws, Design Books and Plumbing Codes of Practice governing the supply of water and everything was laid down in Law or Codes of Practice. The time served Apprentice under another Plumber had to learn the Regulations at College, to gain his / her Certification and Advanced Certification.
I never once had to advise a customer to change the valve inside the washing machine to a low pressure inlet type.
There should still be Regulations etc., that those supplying your water supply and your domestic plumbing inside installation are bound by?

Home now and got my Washing Machine User Manual and under Installation it says:-
The water supply pressure required to run the product is between 1 to 10 bars (0.1 - 1 MPa). It is necessary to have 10 - 80 litres of water flowing from the fully open tap in one minute to have your machine run smoothly. Attach a pressure reducing valve if water pressure is higher.
1 Bar is a low pressure (14.5 psi / pounds per square inch), but good enough for standard UK washing machines.
The water pressure in the road here was once recorded between 6 to 7 Bars.
Get in touch with your Water Authority.
I have seen the inside of a stop valve body, so full of small stone, grit or other debris in the valve housing, or stuck or even faulty that it has almost stopped the flow of water and or affected the water pressure inside the house.
Your Water Authority / Water Undertaker should also be able to tell your water mains pressure in the Highway outside your home over the 'phone too.
For example Severn Trent Water say they must supply 1 Bar Water Pressure

In the STWA pdf
https://www.stwater.co.uk/content/dam/stw/tier2_helpandcontacts/customer-policies/severn-trent-guide-to-water-pressure-policy.pdf
"We are legally obliged to provide you with 1 bar of water pressure or 10 metres of static head. Bar is
the unit for pressure and 1 bar of pressure is enough to push water upwards, known as static head,
to 10 metres."

I am putting this on this diary as I think this is where we were at with Pharma T and her washing machine problems
I have PM'd PharmaT a couple of times to just find out how she is, in her reply I think she is just stepping back to sort things out, not only from RC , as she said she is worried about coming back to RC , so we have to accept her wishes and I totally agree with her, she is trying to go forward with her life and I wish her all the best
I'm happy for you to let people know but I'm scared if I come back I'll stay. Working really hard at isolating myself from everyone not just RC and I don't want to take a step backwards.PT
-
Very best wishes to Pharma, and whatever she feels is right for her is not for me to contradict, however, I seriously doubt that attempting to be isolated from everyone will be comforting for her. :'(
-
I agree MH, that doesn't seem to be a good idea at all. My best wishes too.
-
As has been said, Pharma has need of reassurance for reasons it is not for us to know.
We have been as helpful as we could be with advice ,information and support.
I hope from that she feels she will be welcome and will come back when she is ready .
Viktoria.
