Title: St John Pembroke Dock Freeman Marriage
Post by: matelo on Sunday 30 January 22 15:17 GMT (UK)
I am looking for the marriage of Edward Freeman (bachelor ) and Hannah Thomas (widow ) in the parish of St John Pembroke Docks,  I have a copy of the Banns which were entered into the register  ( Page 24, No75, in 1875.) I cannot find any trace on line or on any census (1881,1891.)  of their family, especially siblings. I belive that they may have died and the children were orphan at some time in the late 1800's.  Any help would be most welcome as I have hit a brick wall for the last 20yrs with this query.

The clergy appears to put an 'M' against some of the banns when they marry and there is not one on their banns.  :-\

ADDED I also looked for Neil McCluskey whose banns are a couple of pages later - FindMyPast has the register image for that marriage as well as the banns image.

Have you the names of these children?  Are they alone on census or missing?

Hi, I have one sibling who was down on the 1911 census as being born at pembroke dock 's, and going by her age she was born about 1885/6  .Her name was Margaret Freeman.  On her marriage cert her father was Edward Freeman. In the 1901 census she was in Dr Barnado's Home in Ilford Essex. I believe she had other sister's  one who was my g/mother and she was born in Barry. and another one believed to be called Elizaberth. I have not been able to find any thing on them.

It says Pembroke, Wales not Pembroke Docks  :-\

Her marriage took place in Croydon 1908.  Witnesses Minnie Hannah Andrews and  Ada Mary Howell.

Why do you think that the Margaret in Barnardos in Essex is your Margaret, it does not give a place of birth and the name is not uncommon.

I do not know 100% that they are the same person.  1) all I know is that emily/matilda was orphaned in the mid 1800's. She was quite into Dr Barnado's as family gossip goes, there for I assume that this is where she lived until she left, 2) looking at the 1921 Census for the family I found that one child was with there aunt ( Margaret ) in watford (and the fathers name on Margaret marriage certficate states Edward Freeman the same as emily/matilda)  some 40/50 miles from there home town. 3) Checking the 1901 Census with the information on it, date of birth 1887 and the institution Dr Barnardo's seem a bit of coincidence. One should never assume but it seems more likly as go along.
This is why I am trying to enlist the help of more experienced people.

Then you present the known facts without your interpretation.

How or why have you decided the "siblings" are in fact siblings other than a surname and pob?

These are the facts as i know them

No,those are your interpretation of the facts,
Transcribe the census(es)
Transcribe marriage certificate
Transcribe any birth certificates for the later generation .

It's also been pointed out that the pob on census was not Pembroke Dock,it was Pembroke.
Why "send  out a search" for the wrong county?

It would appear that for some reason, as a novice at this and trying to finish my family tree, and while my time is short, I have raised the wrath of Cain, to the other person's that tried to help I do sincerely thank you for your time and effort and therefore I will now close this request.
   Many Thanks

Just adding to the mix here re Margaret Freeman. IF per chance she is the daughter of Edward & Hannah and did go onto marry Frank Charles White then the following is probably correct.

1. She appears with Frank in 1911
2. She appears with Frank in 1921
3. Frank dies aged 53 in 1934 in Watford (Frank Charles on GRO record) He does leave a probate but no mention of Margaret.
4. Margaret remarries Sydney/Sidney Green in Watford in 1938
5. They appear together in 1939 register , her dob 27.5.1886
6. Possible  death of Margaret Green dq 1961 Watford

matelo, please, please do not close your post. I agree that sometimes the response from certain parties can come across a rather curt. This is not in any way how a majority of rootschat members react. We all love the challenge of trying to help other's and the chase does stretch us on many occastions.

I am wondering if  it is worth contacting Barnados to see if they have any information on the girls.

Again purely for info. Margaret and Frank had a son born in 1912 Leslie Frank White. His baptism image is on Ancestry. With regard to Margaret's death she left a probate record in 1962 naming Leslie Frank White.

Jeff it’s your nephew Harry - hope you are well.

I am also looking into the family tree and have my own theory into Emily (your grandmother) that may or may not be correct but I would really like to visit you to go over the family history at some point - I lost your number a few years back and thought it would be easier to contact you directly instead of going through Barb.

Please email me your number and I will call you. harry.freeman19@gmail.com
