Title: I cant find Roscern Co. Fermanagh?
Post by: GeoffB on Monday 09 August 04 13:48 BST (UK)
I Have a John Davis, Policeman, from Roscern Co. Fermanagh who arrived in NZ about 1850. Married Ann Carson. Their daughter Elizabeth was "the first european girl born in the new capital Auckland" 15 Aug 1853.  But have no idea where Roscern is or was, so can't go further back.

Any ideas??

Geoff

Thanks Little Nell & Donni : Roscor and Roscarn - could well be.... Now how can I sort this out??  Um... Census info?

Thanks Donni, only one letter difference, could be the one.  I wonder how it would have been pronounced - as in it could sound very similar or quite different to my "Anglish" understanding.

http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/index.cfm This may help at some stage as it shows the distribution of the name Davis throughout Ireland during the period 1848 - 64

The link to the map of Parishes mentioned in Donni's post is broken.

This link shows the Civil parishes of Co. Fermanagh www.ancestryireland.com/database.php?filename=map_fermanagh
