Title: Hannah Moody's burial
Post by: mudgeemaid on Monday 07 March 22 04:53 GMT (UK)
Hello Rootschat
Looking to see if the cemetery "Brown Street" New Sarum, Wiltshire, still exists.
Looking to see if there is a head stone for Hannah Moody who was born 1806 & died 1807. Parents were Joshua & Patty Moody. Hannah died 25.11.1807.
Joshua & Patty were non conformists & I have found a reference  "Non conformists & dissenting studies 1650-1850 which mentions Joshua Moody. They reference the entry as "UBD Vol.4 p.561" Does anyone know what "UBD" stands for?
Appreciate  any help & thanks in anticipation
regards

TNA/RG/4/1433

Original image on FindMyPast has Joshua & Patty of the parish of St Edmunds, New Sarum.  Hannah was buried in the Protestant Dissenters burying ground Brown Street, Sarum on 25th November 1807 age 1 year 6 months.  It does not give a date of death

Have you looked at Brown Street on online Maps  :-\

Hmm, when you google Old Sarum you seem to just find information on the ancient ruins etc.  Perhaps you could try the Wiltshire Family History Society ?

There is no evidence of a cemetery in Brown Street on Google earth.  The baptist church which is still standing is surrounded by buildings and access road

A remote possibility - this NLS map shows a large cemetery (just below the Milford area)

And car parks by the looks of it.

Looking good, both Nonconformist one side and Cof E. on the other.

There is an old chapel near to me, their burial ground is across the road and a short walk away.  I wonder if the same applies here?  No room around the chapel itself so burial ground found elsewhere.

The Large cemetery mentioned above is the London Road Cemetery.  I don't believe it was around in 1807.

The Baptist church now has offices to the left of it and a car park to the right.

Behind it (and on the 1878 map) was Gibbs Mew brewery (demolished about 30 years ago) and now housing.

I concur that it would be best to approach the Wiltshire FHS for assistance.
